Doesn't matter at all. I can brag about my G5 being more powerful than most PC's out there all I want. I can brag about the Powermac G5 being the best computer available to the public right now. Just because Intel is manufacturing their processors, don't mean shit. Apple is smart.....they are just sourcing out cheaper labor, to ultimately bring down cost, so an Apple computer can find it's way into more homes. Simple, and smart move on Apple's behalf. I gaurantee you that ever Apple made from here on in will still be an Apple through-and-through. If anything, PC's are even more fucked now.

that really is the only thing killing apple, entry price is too high.

i saw something the otherday that a G4 1.33GHz laptop w/ 12 in screen and 256MB of ram is $1,000. Thats just not even cool.

If apple can compete with PCs then more manufacturers would make software with mac support.

There are also rumors of Intel buying Mac and then dropping support for M$ products in an attempt to overthrough M$.

Also, the PowerMac dual G5 is NOT the best for everything. Sure it rocks for everydday shit and for video, but for what I do (3d graphics) my Xeons will kick its ass....and for less than half the price.

I truly missed us arguing about this. It just wasn't the same without you.

    ok, ok, ok....How's this?

    3D Rendering: Xeon>G5

    Everything else: Xeon<G5

    :p

Over throw microsoft? I dono about that one. However it would be cool i guess for apple to become a bigger player. The only reason I would want a mac is for Graphic design, video editing ect.

how is that price insane? Laptops aren't cheap no matter what kind it is. 1000 is normally a starter price for a decent laptop and it just goes up from there. Alot of decent laptops start around 1800 and go to about 2300. Don't give me the at dell you can get an inspiron 8000 for 800, because that computer is a peice of junk. In addition, the iBook kills most windows laptops in battery life. My freind had one over yesterday and he could watch a full dvd and still have about an hour of battery life left. If I just have my vaio with no apps open unpluged, it will probally only last 2.5 hours. For classes, I run a note taking program calle MS Onenote. For some of my 2 hour classes, I am lucky if the battery lasts all the way through, and that is with turning the backlight on the screen all the way down. If I tryed to watch a DVD, the motor on the Drive would drain the battery in probally 45 minutes. True, I could up battery life by getting a 14 cell battery or take out my CD drive and run 2 batterys but then thats just more money into the system.

Also, check out an educational discount. You really don't even have to prove that you go to a school, just type one in from that area. Drops the price of the 12inch ibook to 899

Umm my Dell Inspiron 600m gets about 4-5 hours battery life (at full load about 3-3.5). Its got 512 MB of RAM 1.6GHz Pentium M and 14" screen for $912 with tax and shipping. Dont gimmie that good laptops start at 1600 crap. The only problem i have with mine is i cant play Doom3 or CS:S, but i have my real computer for that.

^^ Thats why I don't have a laptop. In my opinon, laptops are a complete waste of money. You're paying more for a computer that sucks.

Dual Xeons, gig of ram, 500gb of HD space, less than $1900.

Your paying more for ultra portable. This computer (laptop) is great, i dont like sitting in my computer chair. Id rather lay on my bed and watch tv while i read this board and talk on aim.

I still have my two big computers:

    Foxconn 655(bargain board), P4 2.4C, 1GB of RAM (mismatched), ATI 9800 Pro

    and now the new system

    ABIT AA8XE, P4 3.2, 1GB Corsair XMS PC2-5400, nVidia 6600GT

The new system runs pretty hard core and i just plain love it, but i still loves my laptop more.

I've always hated laptops. They're fucking slow as hell and cost way too much in general. Want portability? Then dont be a lazy ass, unhook your monitor, and bring your box with you.

I'd rock OS-X in a hearbeat. I loved it when it first came out, and I can't imagine it getting any worse.

You can already do it. DL Cherry OS, I have it, but never got around to installing it, apparently it takes up a lot of space.

The sooner OS X is released to the PC market, the sooner all us Mac users are filled up with spyware and viruses. REALLY bad idea on Apple's part if this is what they want to do. Companies and hackers will start writing spyware programs for OSX instead of windows, then one of the major selling points for me to buy a Mac in the first place is down the shitter.

I hope they dont do this.

What's your problem? Think you're above being plagued by the same viruses/spyware as the rest of us? Come down there off your apply cloud and see the rest of the computing world for what it is!

Man, thats a fact. That is the only + I see with OS X (next to the stability).

I think the mac users have had it too easy for too long....WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD MWAHAHAHA

Above spyware? Yes, Yes I am. This is why there are no spyware removers for OSX.....about 0.000000001% of spyware is written for OSX. Viruses? Almost.... There are still very few written for the Mac platform. I have Norton System Works for Mac (Anti virus and others)....and haven't even come across a warning yet.

I'm sure there are some out there, but in the amount of porn I surf, I havent come across anything. I have been to extremely aggressive sites, and although a bunch of unrecognised .exe files showed up on my desktop while downloading pics and movies, they don't effect the Mac OS at all, because, obviously, .exe files don't exist in Mac OS.

Just wait until there's a boom in Mac OS sales for PC. People will start to write spyware programs for it and the one good OS we had is down the shitter like XP.

We need to do this Outbreak style....Gather up all of Microsoft and windows stuff, drop them on a deserted island before they infect the rest of us :p

ok, that's alittle harsh but you get the point.
