I went out to my car yesterday to go up to the store and I noticed that my hood looked liked it was keyed. So I took my key to the rest of the car, and called my insurance. Well took it down today to have the adjuster look at it, and I got $1440 for it being keyed on the good panels. Cool thing about it was the insurance guy told me it wasn't worth getting painted or fixed so he told me to just spend the money on fixing the motor or a other things it needs... That was the best news ever..:D:D:D

    Its not fraud.

He just cant file another claim for the same damages. He can spend the money on whatever he wants.

key'ing your own car and then calling the insurance company on the intentional damage you caused is fraud
thats like torching it, or having it stolen and stripped

The insurance guy told me not to even get it painted. He said to just fix up the motor so it will run forever..The car was already half way keyed.. Someone actually keyed the hood..

It doesn't matter if it was already keyed, you inflated the damage thereby inflated the payout...also known as Exaggerated Claims (Overstating the Amount of Loss).

Any way you slice it, it's fraud.

I'm pretty sure that most people on this forum don't commit insurance fraud.

And even if they did, I hope most would be smart enough not to post what they did on a public internet forum.

well, no i don't commit fraud, but i think most people have more of a problem with you posting it on a public forum than what you actually did
you did what you did, thats between you and the insurance company (and possibly the law, which makes this thread evidence fyi)
i think you're catching the flak for admitting to it on a public website...
