OK everyone, I've recently purchased and installed a B16A automatic to put in my 95 Civic EX. Before you bash me on the auto, please allow me to state this. I've driven manuals for 17 years, and would love for this to be one, but it will be driven by my wife, and I've recently developed a herniated disk in my back that when acts up, pushes on my sciatic nerve, and give me severe pain in my clutch leg, so, an automatic is best for me at this time.

OK, to the question. After getting the swap done, I've found that the tranny that came with my B16 (jdm) is junk, and I need a new one. Will an auto from a 94+ auto B18 (Integra LS) work? From what I've read, it should, but I'm getting confused about people talking about the TCM (tranny control). Is this something I'm going to have to worry about? I've got a P30 ecu that came with the engine, and wired in the knock sensor. Will the P28 that was in the car work?

Sorry, but I've tried searching, and can't find exactly the answers I'm looking for, and I've run into enough obstacles while doing this swap that I'd rather not run into more.

    Thanks!

the P28 is not ideal for a B16A, but will run it, just not well, use the right ECU. I am not sure about any TCM, but yea, the teg auto transmissions will work, but the gearing is going to make it a dog.

    cool, thanks for the help.

Even with the LS tranny being a dog, it's still going to be an overall improvement to the D16 automatic that I had right? I'm not looking at making this into a racer. I commute 30 miles to and from work everyday on back country roads. I'm looking at something that's going to get decent mileage, but still be able to pass slow ass farmers in the short straight stretches I've got when I need to.

I'm also thinking about sending one of the ECUs off to get chipped. Worth it?

Honestly I think that's just about the worst transmission you could hook up to a B16 engine. It's gear horribly long, and with the B16 making all it's power up top and having very little torque I don't think it's going to be much fun at all...

sorry to dig this back up, but I believe the p30 I got is not made for an automatic. When stated that the p28 "will run it, just not well" can anyone elaborate on this for me? What problems would I expect to encounter? I'm still thinking of sending it off to be chipped... anyone have someone they'd recommend for this?

They mean that the engine will start up, but you will have very little power because all of the fuel and timing maps will be wrong and it will rev like a dying dog if at all.

If I remember right a auto JDM b16 tranny is internally shifting, meaning the should be a cable running from the throttle body down to the tranny just like a auto D would have. A usdm auto teg has a tcm its controlled by. look at the old tranny and see if it has that cable

I would indeed recommend having it chipped. The P28 is great in it's versatility, but it's not a magical solution to any ECU issue. In order to effectively control different engines, it needs to be chipped and loaded with the appropriate maps...in your case, maps for a B16...

As for where to get it chipped, do you have any local performance shops that work on imports? If so, I'd start there, see what they recommend and what they have the ability to tune...

No local shops that I'm aware of, so, I do not mind sending it off to chip. With that being said, any recommendations?

On a plus side, I just got it back from having the tranny replaced today. It's the first time I've driven it since August! WooHoo!:D I'm currently running the P30 for a manual tranny. It puts the tranny into "limp" mode, so it's only for 2 gears, but I'm telling you, those two gears are fun! I need to get my P28 Chipped so the tranny will work right, and so will the engine, so, I guess that's all I'm waiting for now.
