I have a 91 civic and a b16a motor installed. I also have a JDM shift linkage that seems a few inches too long but don't know what car it's from but has the correct bends and ends on it.

How the hell am I to determine exactly how much I'm supposed to cut off??
I know even a little too much will cause problems.
 
move your shifter(inside car) with linkage attached and find the center( where neutral will be) now make sure your transmission is in neutral, mark how much needs to be removed, cut excess, reinforce internall and reweld.
