We have a B16A2 engine in my brothers coupe. The ECU appears faulty. We have a "Type R" (B16B) ecu. Will the B16A2 run correctly with this ecu? Ther barcode on the side of it reads: 37820-PCT-003-1115-102480.

Thanks

Tom

OBD1 or OBD2 ECU? If you have an OBD2 ECU/Car and have an OBD1 motor then the ECU is going to dump everytime you run that thing.

As long as you have the same OBD type as your engine and chassis any B-Series ECU should work. When I had an LS motor non-VTEC, I was troubleshooting the current ECU cause my car wouldn't start. I plugged in my buds OBD I J-spec B16A ECU and my car started right up. Point of this story is my first sentence.

Car 97 Civic Coupe
Engine B16A2
ECU : JDM Type R (obd2) from 97 JDM B16B

all connections obd2.

Plugging in the ecu is not a problem. What we were wondering is will the map on the "new" ecu do damage to the engine?

thanks

Tom
