B16a2 Excessive Oil Consumption

Hi All,
Our B16a2 has been using loads of oil recently (a litre for 500 miles!) There are no obvious leaks from the engine, and no blue or black smoke from the exhaust.
The only symptom we noticed is that there was a ton of white smoke when we vtec'ed it hard yesterday. Someone suggested that one of the valve seals might be gone? The engine has done only 30,000 miles, but was unused for a year and a half before we put it in our 93 Civic hatch.

Does anyone know what this might be, or any tests we can do? The engine has 0w 40 fully synth oil- is this the wrong grade?? Please help!!!

Try running 10w30 like the manual suggests and see if it helps you problem.

yeah i would look into changing the valve seals, it is not that hard of a job. also yeah try playing with oils, i have always run 10w40, look into that or 10w30.

If it was something bad like a piston ring, wouldn't the engine make blue/black smoke? Would power remain the same?
