This isn't a repost, actually read the article -- jackass. :p

It's new information about how it'll be delayed.

I've already got 3 solar powered back up cameras on my car, why the fuck do I have to run an electric one?

i think its a mandate on new cars.

is it really that useful? i can see it on trucks and vans, but i dunno, i just back up slowly and turn my head around. ive thought about adding one to my car just cuz i have the ability to since my stereo supports it.

The guy who backed over the my car had a backup camera on his new truck. Mandating it doesnt make the roads any safer really.

actually, i kinda get up off my seat a bit since im short, to look back. but i suppose if youre going slow enough (like automatic tranny roll), it should not damage whatever it is that is behind too bad. unless its like a toy, skateboard or something. in regards to life, kids and pets should be watched upon anyway.

i have 2 little nieces (7 and 8 yrs old) that i take out quiet often since they were toddlers. my rule is, hands with me at all times in a parking lot or within my immediate vicinity and eyes for cars. mostly because i know how stupid and irresponsible i was when i was a teen driver.

now statistically, i want to see how fast and how many were actually paying attention when they backed up too something. for me, each time it was either going to fast or not paying attention that i hit or almost hit something (parking poles, cars and people).

Yeah, but Turbomirage is 3 1/2 feet tall.

EDIT: And I also have noticed for years, many newer cars have trunk lids that are higher than the roof of my cars. my 91 Integra is lower than the window line on the Corolla.

It's a huge, tubby, retarded car.

Check this out sometime.. the "Small" Toyota XD is as just about as tall as a Ford Explorer. My Mustang looks like a Bertone X-9 compared to some of today's compact cars.

If it will save 300 lives a year (acc to the article), then the cost is roughly $2.7 million dollars/life saved. That is for the 16 million cars sold per year in the US, and a minimum ~$50 it costs to add this feature to each car. This is for a camera, screen, wiring to the back of the car, ect... Manufacturers have known about this upcoming law for years.

and blind spots are getting bigger, and drivers are getting lazier.

    fucking nanny state.

all of this stupid safety shit that is making cars heavier and more expensive (even though they will be required to have a minimum mpg rating, catch 22) would all be completely unnecessary if they would just make it harder to get a license and actually teach people to respect driving and the responsibilities to go with it.

and then, cars would be cheaper because there would be less crap on them. they would be lighter and more fuel efficient as well. and the roads will be safer than any technology will ever make it.

Stupid law. Should mandate people to take an ACTUAL drivers education course, or require everyone to participate in some form or other of motorsports for a period of time until they are capable of driving responsibly, carefully, cautiously, and aggressively when needed.

The short time I've been autocrossing I have learned so much about my skills behind the wheel and what I am capable of doing in a vehicle and what my vehicle is capable of and how to responsibly handle myself behind the wheel.

I don't care how many "nanny-state" laws you pass. It won't fix the problem at hand, most people are just fucking incompetent and stupid drivers.

If you don't care to learn how to properly drive, don't fucking drive.

Take the bus, carpool, walk, bicycle, ride a scooter. If you cannot drive, you shouldn't be in control of a 3500lb lethal weapon.
