check your power and ground wires for corrosion, and clean them if needed. My truck did this to me recently.

Also check your spark plug wires and distributor cap.

Was your battery old? I would first replace the battery and the main relay and then see what your car does next. Sometimes a few unrelated things will go at once on an older car.

do you have a votl meter?
the battery should read 12 when the car is not running if it dosn't then charge up the battery a check again if the volt meter shows a drop than your battery is shot. If it dosn't read 14.4 when the car is running then the alt is bad
