The following will eliminate a faulty battery or connection...however you will need steady hands, to prevent a fire work show.
The battery needs to remain connected, for the starter signal.
Run jumper cables from a running car directly to the starter. Place the positive lead on the power cable that mounts to the starter(a helpful hint..you could clamp some vise grips on the 12mm nut and place the jumper cable clamp on the vice grips, **careful not to make contact with bare metal within).
A solid ground is critical as well. (The bolts for the upper control arms in the engine bay should work fine or the bolts for the tranny mount.)
If no difference after this, consider replacing the starter motor. Unless of course there are un mentioned issues else where.
