I wonder what the difference would be for a head on collision? That's some good shit though, and I'd like to shank the fucker that said let's destroy a perfectly good 59.

vehicle size does not directly translate to safety, other than "perceived safety" for some people... ie: people "feel" safer in a larger vehicle

the design and build quality of a vehicle have far more to do with actual safety than size does

what that video is showing is that even though the 2009 Malibu is a smaller and lighter weight car, it fares better in this accident demonstration thanks to its crumple zones and safety cell cabin design

whether a smaller or larger car would have fared better or worse in this test can not be determined based strictly on vehicle size alone, again factors such as design and build quality have far greater of an effect

Build quality is right. Sure that Malibu is a freaking tank but how well do you think that motor stays in position? The glass pretty much liquefied as well.

I'm sure he was talking about the bel air, you can see the windshield pop completely out of the bel air and go flying.

Notice they never showed the crash from the driver side of the malibu? Makes you wonder... They almost did in one clip, then switched the camera angle. Must have been gnarly.

Still, I wouldn't have called that.. I would have expected the bel air to destroy the malibu

Meh. It was a four door. No one gives a shit about the fodos.

Anyone else notice the billowing clouds of rust that came out from the bel air? They obviously found one sitting in a field, put a Maaco paint job on it and ran it into their super safety mobile. If that thing was showroom fresh or even just not completely rusted out, it would have destroyed that plastic piece of shit.

Right. I was only pointing that out because of B's original comment.

Good call Klyph, although, it could have been all surface rust, which would not really have effected the structural integrity of the steel...?

Bottom line, there is a lot to be said for safety features and crash compatibility.

I would have taken that Bel Air off their hands too. Geez.

Sure a save vehicle is more rational, but that car is like a motorcycle. It's more about the style and experience. I'd prefer it over that Malibu any day.

I'd rather die in a 59' than live to see them F up another classic for no reason. Senseless car violence, just like in the movies. Could'nt a picture of a wreck from back in the day been good enough?

It does demonstrate a good point, but why couldn't they have used a Ford, or a 60 chevy or something? No one likes the 60 chevy. 59 was a bad ass year. Year after the El Camino came out, and was the best looking one possibly ever,(late 60's early 70's being the closest runners up) and Also one of the best looking Impalas. Though I think the 64 looks better as a car and the 59 looks better as an el camino.

Edit: 60 was a good looking car to, just do it to a ford, or mopar.

They could have done a 73 Malibu, no one cares about them either.

Actually they did; but not much to see. Air bag deployed, dash/cabin stayed intact, etc.
