buddy of mine thinking of putting vtec cams from a d16y8 ('97). will they work/are they going to be better. he wants cams that are better than stock but fairly cheap. any other suggestions?

They won't work. You can only use VTEC cams in a VTEC engine.
If your friend is talking about a DOHC ZC, have him contact Delta Cams or HKS- they both have applications for that engine.

He might also want to check into some regrinds. Crower and Gude make nice regrinds and they are usually about 170 for a pair.
Of course. Anyone can regrind cams if you give them some blanks or originals.

He should go with HKS in my opinion.

Don't go by just a brand name... those cams haven't been made in a while, and are extremely hard to find. You can get cams ground to the HKS specs if you really want to for much less money than buying the real HKS cams.
