the person/people may have planned for it to be much worse, but those bombs were no where good enough to accomplish much more than what they did.

Link? The article I read this morning said they have suspects, but made no judgement as to their origins.
This is my personal analysis.
It'd just be one more reason to stop sending them money. I love how we can't keep a payroll tax cut, but still send ridiculous money to the sandbox.
Listening to the scanner tonight because of the shooting at MIT but now I am listening to Boston PD deal with two suspects that have detonated some kind of explosive device either IED or grenade. Possible automatic gunfire. They have been advised to power off cell phones.
This may all be unrelated but it does sound like they have one in custody and one at gun point.

Yeah listening to the start of the whole thing was insane. Looks like I will be up a little later than usual this evening.
Summary for morning crew:
- Thursday night robbery at 7-11 by two armed perps.
- Shooting of MIT officer in vehicle a short while later, officer was killed.
- Carjacking of Mercedes SUV following the officer shooting, carjacking victim released unharmed.
- Rolling gunfight between BPD and perps in Mercedes who were shooting and throwing grenades (types currently unknown, but scanner traffic indicated automatic gunfire). One transit officer was hit and is in critical condition.
- Vehicle halted and a gun battle ensued. One perp was hit and transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hospital call for "code black" may have been related to explosives on perp's body, but was later cleared.
- A passerby was taken into custody by police and stripped to search for IEDs. He's been questioned and is still being detained has been released.
- Second perp eluded capture and is at large somewhere in a 20-block cordon in Watertown.
- It has been confirmed that both perps are the suspects from the Marathon bombing. Dead perp is Suspect 1 from FBI photos. Perp at large is Suspect 2. Scanner did name him as the missing student from Brown, but this has not been confirmed or repeated.
- Multiple SWAT are sweeping neighborhood, going house to house and are apparently waiting for daylight to make entry into the suspected hiding place.
- According to WHDH 7News, EOD teams are dealing with multiple UXOs throughout the area.
- Beth Israel ED director confirmed in press conference that Suspect 1 suffered blast and thermal injuries
- MIT classes canceled for the day. MBTA services suspended until further notice.
- Harvard classes also canceled. Emerson, too.

-- They are reportedly of Chechen background, and is possibly from Turkey.
-- They have been reportedly here legally.
-- They are NOT, as previously speculated by some, connected to a missing Brown University student.
