god damn that has to be so frustrating to try and grab on a ring with a robotic arm that keeps moving all around in the ocean

I think they should collapse the pipe like we do with land based oil well fires. Drop an explosive charge in the pipe and detonate. I suppose if that where a feasible plan it would have already been tried.

I'm just getting a kick out of watching this thing try and hold on long enough to unscrew the 5 or 6 bolts holding what was the pipe on to the blowout preventer, itll grab a hold and then get puched away by a current haha

all we need is sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads

anyone know how deep the actual drilled well is?

the blow out preventer is sitting at like 4900 feet deep, the well is drilled to an estimated 18,000 feet under the ocean floor.

why cant they just start laying a bead of weld around the edge until the hole is finally sealed, or at least constricted

I was thinking about that earlier... why didn't they just crimp the pipe? if the metal was thick enough to stop a diamond tipped saw, why wouldn't it hold the oil back if it was crimped off?

i dont think you just crimp a pipe that big
if it were going to crimp it would have done it when 5000 feet of line collapsed to the ocean floor on top of it

If they can use giant shears to "snip" it off then they could have used a clamp to do the same, one would think.

is it possible to weld something 2' wide with the force of all that oil coming out? not to mention, no human can go that deep, so it needs to be pure robots.

Reminds me of the movie Abyss, they need to break out the breathing water!

looks like everything is down now
here's the link to the main page with all the cameras

would be nice to have them all viewable on one page, and then you could zoom in on the ones doing something

looks like they have succeeded in adding additional steps to the oil leak process with no actual change to the leak lol

Is it just me or is the fucking oil on fire underwater??

Check the Skandi ROV

Well after doing a little checking I guess its part of the cap they are trying to put into place.
