Icelandic , I think, Isn't too tough to learn. The pronunciation is a BITCH but I was speaking it regularly back in 99, when I had plans to go there. I forget most of it, and my keyboard is capable of less.
My mom was a model in the 60s. So nice score there. My dad, however... not so much.

I had two years of Mandarinn and i still speak more of that than i do Icelandic...
I never took a germanic language though so the whole to, for, from and about thing is really hard for me to get my head around. The real pain is if you leave Reyk and head north or east they speak it differently. I went to Akueryi in the north and they told me i spoke southern slang.
The language hasn't changed since the Danes took over in 1200 or so. If you can read the old medieval text, and educated icelander can still read the Sagas all these centuries later because the language has not changed.
They just stood up an new airline called Iceland Express. Flies out of Boston for fairly short money. I would suggest fall or spring to visit. Otherwise you run into summers with two hours of dark and winters with two hours of sun. If i had a choice though take winter. New Years eve in Reykjavik is insane. They fire off every damn thing they can find that doesn't require a mortar. I was eating gunpowder that night. It's amazing they manage not to burn the whole city down...

If you ever saw Batman Begins a lot of the begining scenes are from Iceland. The bit where he gets tossed out on the road at the base of the glacier is a real place. Don't get stuck though. If you go someplace where the roads are closed and you are not suppose to be there and you have to get rescued, the rescue service will send you the bill...
