Guns served their purpose when the common citizen was a part of the community militia, not in 2006. Guns were used as a survival mechanism in those days, a means by which to feed a family - which is still acceptable if that is ones means of livelihood. There's absolutely no reason to be carrying a gun for 99% of the people in the world, other than the fact that its written in the constitution. Yes, written in the constitution, a document that is now hundreds of years obsolete; a document that was written by rebels who started a revolution and overthrew their government, written by people whom would be known as terrorists today. If I wrote in the constitution it should be okay to rape women and put other lives in jeopardy, does that mean that its ethical, fair, or morally responsible to partake in these activities?
Believe what you wish about people being too liberal and trying to disarm the country, but honestly in an idealistic society if everyone were dearmed, there would be a lot less problems. I hate to say it but look at Canada.
If you took the guns out of the criminals hands and out of the commoners hands than there would be one less way for foolish, irrational people to kill themselves. Its sad that one bad apple spoils the bunch but in all honesty, just like driving, I personally feel that owning a gun is a privelege that not everyone can handle. If its used for hunting, fine then it serves it purpose Otherwise, in today's society a gun serves no GOOD purpose, especially not a handgun or assault weapon. The simple fact that someone carries a handgun should make that person suspect for evaluation. That person now has the means, a means of which the majority of the country does not possess, to do bodily harm to a fellow person.
It does not serve its purpose when some dip-dunk like Celerity carries a gun in the city. In that case, its for insecure people with tiny wee-wee's that are scared of the possibilities of being intimidated by confrontation and its their means to solve the problem rather than rationally talking the situation out, running away, or if needbe fighting in a non lethal manner to protect oneself. Instead, some people who are too small, and actually think they're too big to run away, let a conflict escalate to a level thats unwarranted by the use of a gun.
