Broken Jeep JY

I'm using my parents '92 YJ for the winter. 2.5L 5 speed nothing special.

I stopped at a stop sign, let out the clutch to take off and pop...no go. Wasn't a loud bang, no grinding noises, no whining before or anything like that. Rear drive shaft spins and front shaft spins when in 4 wheel drive and it doesn't move anywhere.

What did I break?

did the rear end fail? idk just a guess thats what it sounds like to me

sounds like both ends failed.

well you got a diff at each end, a pair of axles and some hubs. simple stuff.

open ur differential cases and check to see if the gears ingauging

Yeah my dad and I figured the rear end too. I haven't used 4 wheel in a while so I don't know why both pop'd. And I'm planning on pulling both diff covers tomorrow. There seem to be a lot of part trucks around so I should be alright. Just no 50" TV for Gran Turismo this Christmas.

check the hubs too they will break if not used in a while...

The truck was siting for a long time...I'll pull the covers hopefully tonight.

Exploded 2 spider gears into 3 pieces each. No other damage so I'm getting the gear/pin/shim kit for $120.
