ohh, and fuck intel.

<<daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn>>

he didnt just say that......

dude, goto fucking Fry's electronics if they got it out in ur area....
it's one of the biggest comp. stores in Cali. They have
shitty customer service (in person)
, but GOOD prices.

their website is Frys Electronics

or you could wait a few months for the AMD 64bit "Hammer" series (w/ the motherboard chipset built on the die) to come out it'll kick ass

www.tomshardware.com

AMD VS Intel is about the same as Mustang VS Camaro

no matter what you will always find someone who things the other is better

I myself would never go back to Intel unless I had to...

$140 for a 1.8Ghz intel or $136 for a 2400+ 2.0ghz rated at intels 2.4ghz

hmmmm let me think about this....

btw I just bought a 2400+ AMD and over the last 10 or so comptuers I've built I've always used AMDs and none to this day have had problems other then the owners F-ing up windows well why can't I delete that file?.... ohwell more money for me

Jeff

amd's are cheaper.... everybody know's it. they do cost less, but not nessicarily a better value. as for xeon's... they're like mac's: they may be twice as powerful, but they're four times as expensive, you could run a quad p4 system for the price of a single xeon system.

NERD ALERT! :)

I have an old 900 mhz amd and have not had many problems with it, only my motherboard. B, if they have a costco around there, they have memory for real cheap. I am running 2 256 mb chips with a 128 mb video card. Runs pretty good and my little brother is a big internet, network gamer and he is happy with it.

costco may have cheap ram, but they don't have much of a selection and odds are, the kind that they have is not gonna be the right kind for his particular application. as for me dissin' on nerds... i'm pretty close to one myself, i'm just sayin' that there are a lot of kooks out there that think that they're cool with their "custom" cases givin' misinformation about what products are they best.

Newegg.com sucks. Their customer service is horrible. I received a bad mother board from them, I had to pay 8 bucks to ship it back to them. I do not get this back. I feel that I should not have to pay for an error that was not my fault. Also the return on this bad mother board has left me without a good computer for over 3 weeks now. They will not send you out a new piece until they receive your defective part. Then they take 3 days to ship out a new one, and then they ship it the cheapest (slowest way). I will never buy from them again due to it being such an inconvienence to order from them.

not to bogart the post....

but whats that intel CENTRINO all about? is that another celeron? or is it of the high level?

OK, let me get this straight, you can build huge, awesome sites, and yet you can't build a computer? Its like putting lego's together, anyone can do it. www.pricewatch.com owns j00 for prices. And for good articles on what parts are good, www.firingsquad.com

oh and one more thing...if you guys are complaining about getting screwed by these mail order companies....

all you have to do is write an nasty letter and or phone call. EG: i ordered a home theater system from goodguys.com.
it was refurbished, and it was marked 200.00 off the original price. when i received the order, i found in the box a lesser model than i had ordered.

so i called them and they said i had to pay the shipping to get it back to them AND that there was a "misprint" in their online website. www.goodguys.com
they said that they did not intend to offer that product at that price.

SO, i wrote them a nice little email, stating that this was a "classic case of bait and switch" and how could such a reputable company resort to "fraudulent" actions.

THE NEXT DAY, i received a phone call from some guy claiming to be the ceo? or vice something or other of goodguys.com and he vehemetly denied it was bait and switch
and he would send me a brand new model for nothing and pay for the shipping.

moral of this story? unless you complain and be persistant, these companies will always wind up screwing the little guy in the ass.

I can build a computer. I'm freakin A+ certified.
i just haven't been in the loop lately, and as you know, shit that was cool 6-9 months ago is now dog shit. so, whats new?

Ok....

AMD vs Intel- who cares... I like both, I buy both- but AMD chips just can't handle the abuse, and my main system won't be seeing an AMD chip for a while. The cheaper systems (sub $8000) will continue to run AMD chips though.

Newegg = good. I've never been screwed by them, and their customer service has always been good to me. I've spent well over $20,000 with them over the past few years. Excellent company.

AGP 8X is a farce for anything on the market today... 4X is all you need, and it's still overkill unless you're rendering tons of stuff at ridiculously high speeds or playing UT2 or some Q3 modified engine game at 2048x1536+, 32 bit, and 400 fps...

Fry's sucks. Outpost is good. Fry's B&M (brick and mortar, the physical stores) will NOT honor the prices on the web site. I printed out stuff and took it to them, and all I got from every employee and manager on site was "the web site and the store are two separate companies, we won't honor the price". Whatever. Same stock number, same part, same logo on the front of the store and the site... I stormed out and will never go inside one again. Fry's online != Fry's the store.

Xeon isn't really useful for a home computer either, unless you're running so many parallel processes with server type applications that you need all that extra cache RAM. It's ridiculously expensive compared to the regular chips that the Xeon is based off of anyway, and you won't see any noticeable performance increase over "regular" chips in non-server or non-abusive multitasking environments.

I think that was everything...

Intel = network envoriment
AMD = home PC

Both are good compaines compare it to Craftsman vs Snap on, if it's for use in a professional envoriment them Intel if not AMD is the best way to go good performance for much less
