Well it states that video game makers are putting in cards with one time codes for extras like map packs and extra goodies and if u buy the game used it could cost u more money for the extras then it would have been just to buy the game new. The makers don't get money off used games and gamestop sells used games for only a few dollars less than new so the makers are trying to lower the sales of used games. Rumor is that game makers are looking to make games that are going to be only downloadable like how the psp go is! where u can buy games for it but they can only be downloaded to memory card, stick or HD

EA (publisher) has developed this strategy and call it "project ten dollar", where new-copy purchasers are given codes to access ongoing "free dlc", where the only way to acquire this dlc on a used copy is to buy a code from EA. The first title to have this was Mass Effect 2, with the Cerberus Network, costing $15 if purchased separately. EA has had a lot of success with this method, so I would expect it to continue, especially for triple-A titles like Mass Effect and Bad Company.

Oh ok. Well that's mother effin lame. Because I spent $80 on Forza 3's special edition with downloadable content but because I can only play with that content while online, I never get to use it. (long story about lack of connectivity) The same thing goes for GTA Lost and Damned. You used to download it to your hard drive and it was always there. This new system is total bullshit! I paid for the stuff so I should be able to use it whenever/however I feel like. /

You don't pay for a copy of the content, you pay for the rights to use it on the publisher's terms.

Read an EULA sometime, it will change your outlook on multimedia entertainment. This is essentially the foundation of piracy - and many people that actually purchase games use pirated versions simply because it returns control of the software to the user by eliminating DRM/connection requirements/disk checks. But that's a discussion for another thread.

Yeah, and what? If GameStop is selling a game on a physical disk then that means someone else bought it new previously and paid for it, so did the publisher not make money off of it? I guess I don't understand what the issue is here. It seems like the game makers want to double-dip...

Which is exactly why I don't buy from GameStop. If they were actually offering any type of significant discount on used games then I might consider it, but if they're only going to knock off $5 from the price of a recently-released game then I'd rather just pay that 5 extra dollars and get a fresh copy sealed from the factory rather then one that's been sitting around at God knows who's house.

I really don't even know how places like GameStop stay in business. They give you next to nothing for trade-ins and then turn around and charge other people almost full price for used games...

Ermmm...I don't really know what this has to do with the topic of this thread. Fix your Xbox's internet connection and the problem is solved...

It has to do with dlc being a bullshit incentive to buy a new game in the OP's sense or in any at all really. Yea you buy the game new and get their oh so precious one time download cards, but then you can't even play with it if you don't have a constant internet connection. The problem isn't solved for those who don't play online all the time and just want the ability to play with that content. In Forza for example: You can download the ZR1 and various other cars. Some people just want to buy and race with those cars. They don't want them for online play only. Why the hell do you have to be connected to the internet to use it? That's just plain stupid. How is that an incentive to buy a game new? They're still going to lose money to those who don't play online I guess is what Im saying in relation to this thread. lol

the issue is that gameslop makes way to much for selling games and thevgame makers are getting pissed, sure call it doulbe dip or what ever. either way u get shafted by buying games weither its used or new

I just called gameslop to see prices. on battlefield bad company 2 you get $27 which is high the guy on the phone was shocked it was that high and modern warfare 2 is $22 yet they sell the games for $55. and the 60 gig ps3 gameslop will give you $130 and they sell it for $350. now thats a huge markup now if they lowered the prices of their used stuff that would be different

I hear you brutal I dont take used games into gameslop for that reason case they rip u off. i know when i picked up battlefield 2 the guy at the counter was trying to get me to bring in some used games i was lol NO, he was how come? i was u wont give me shit for them!!!! he was well its better to get a few dollars for games you dont play anymore then for them to sit on the shelf, i was well i overpaid paid way to much for them to begin with so they are just fine collecting dust on the case and who knows i might get a wild hair up my ass and pop in a older game

then dont buy the limited edition games. I made sure that i bought battlefield bad company 2 limited edition for the extra map pack and weapons that i am able to use online and for once the limited edition game wasnt more money. I usually never buy limited editions

That's just absolutely ridiculous! I don't know how they're even selling those. You can walk into Best Buy and get a brand new PS3 slim with 120 gigs for $300, or one with 250 gigs for $350...

    :werd:

I'd rather they sit on my shelf and be available to me when I want them then to get insulted at GameStop. If I really want to sell my shit I'll do it on Craigslist and get some fair prices out of it...

Yeah, I guess that is kind of dumb that you can't use that content offline. That doesn't really make a lot of sense...

cause people still want the system that plays all ps games not just the ps3 games. but to me i think that giving a 130 for a system and the turning around and selling it for a profit of 200+ is big time crazy.

my buddies all have been trying to get me to trade my 60 gig for their ps3 just because mine is fully backwards compatable.

the 60 gig version is the only version that plays ALL ps1 and ps2 games, the 20 gig and 80 gig versions that are backwards compatible will only play some of the ps2 games and none of the ps1 games.

sure you might say i dont play ps2 or ps1 games anymore but some people still do and would love to have a one system to do it instead of having to used the older systems

I never buy used games anymore....... I go to best buy.... I can get insurance on my games for 5 bucks and if i break scrach or just dont like it i can take it back......not the 7 day thing gay stop has either. I did this with avatar and now this is the only way i buy games......few more bucks but well worth the money imo.

Im one of those that wanted the extra crap they were throwing in. I play Forza a lot and it would be well worth the extra cash had it been as they led on; 1. They never outright said it was online only content. 2. It was supposed to be exclusive content (as in not able to be purchased otherwise.) Had I known that I would have waited til I had a constant internet source.

    Yeah, I guess that's true...

I've actually been buying games off of Amazon lately. My GF only payed $49.99 for Modern Warfare 2, brand new, and it arrived in like 3 days. That's a helluva deal!

Yeah, that just doesn't make much sense. I don't know why they did that...

Just curious, do you guys move your Xbox's around a lot? Or does your Internet service suck, or what? I mean, I completely agree that it's dumb what they did with this exclusive content, but I have my PS3 and Xbox plugged right into my router, so they're always online...
