Been reading the most alarming things about a software program called Carrier IQ..

Apparently it is a rootkit program installed by companies like verizon, sprint, att and t-mobil that runs on most android, blackberry and Nokia operating systems and logs everything you do... every text, phonecall, webpage and keystroke.

The program is also capable of allowing the rootkit administrator to monitor these items in Real time as well as your real time interaction with the devices hardware (radios, wifi, keystrokes, open applications, touch screen, etc)

I would imagine that because I rooted and flashed a new rom to my Evo Shift that it negates this process. I will be looking into this further. The orginization I work for is looking at allowing android devices to be used for connectivity. If carriers are in fact able to monitor keystrokes that may be a major hurdle.

Well, ya.
Even if you don't have a program hidden on your system, any entity with sufficient tech can intercept your calls/data with minimal effort. Don't say anything over a cell phone that you wouldn't shout into a crowded room of strangers.

Carrier IQ exists at root level and is prevalent on HTC And Samsung specifically .

If you flashed a new rom, and the rom dev didn't remove carrier IQ from it, then the program is still on your phone and is probably active.

i dont do much on my phone really, they'll just know my favorite porn sites. lol.

will be looking into this more, i'd like for it to not be there.

Uhhh derp. You don't think that your every text is monitored?

My friend works @ Verizon. (Their HQ is Baskin Ridge, NJ - a lot of people around here work there). One of the pieces of his job description is that he essentially obtained any information that is requested from search warrants. I.e., if you're on to catch a predator and the cops have a search warrant, he just pulls up your phone number and he's able to see a log of all your incoming and outgoing texts. I'm sure the same can be said for browsing history and that sort of thing, but thats never been the focus of any of our jokes, so we've never talked about anything other than the fucked up texts he gets to read.

Yes, absolutely, but don't forget - he could be reading your text right now. Should something come across his screen thats flagged - say for instance, you talking about how you're going to murder me in 15 minutes - you may hear a whoop whoop and see the police coming your way.

There's a difference between a public forum and a text message though. Lots of evidence that absolutely proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that a person is guilty of a crime has been thrown out because it was obtained improperly. They get to walk scott free.
