man i came to this party a little late. when you get older, you can buy your kid the shit you never got. i'm going to. i'm going to live vicariously through my son. but you have to realize that people have been dealing with these issues since cars came out. think of the first poor people who had a buggy and horse when people were driving cars.

this is why people work hard to make progress in life. yes, we all deal with the issue of envy and wanting to be on the other side of the fence. but in the end it's what makes us who we are. i worked my nuts off to get where i am, and in a couple months when i get a g35 i'll be happy. and eventually one day i'll drop a k-series into a hatch. just because i'll have the money.

don't let this shit get to you. it's nothing new. have pride in what you have. you have a greater appreciation for the simple things in life and you will be the better person in the end. trust me.

you dont have to be driving an expensive car to be a douchebag asshole either.
i know plenty of people with cars i wouldnt even ride in that think they are hot shit.

Personally, I find that everyone under the age of 25 thinks their shit doesn't stink. Only at 25 does it START to get better.

Think I'm crazy ? Lets poll it.

well id say the average age of this board is well under 25, you saying everyone here is full of shit? lol

im only 24, i know my shit stinks :)

the nice thing about working for what you have, is that the G35 isn't even a turn-on. I couldn't care about it, it's just a Datsun to me.

I've owned a lot of those.

Cars become status symbols if you let them. And by giving your kid a flashy car, you instill that feeling of status. Don't pick at it, and it'll go away.

Back on topic: 4 door Subarus are not status vehicles, yet they are in our circles.

It was my dad who said "Why would you put such a motor in a 4 door family car ? Do you want to kill everyone when you t-bone a semi?"

The Subaru cars of today are GREAT family cars. Without the turbo, they are slow - so the Turbo just makes them livable for today's roads. It's not the hot performance machine that everyone fancies them to be. The WRX was exactly as fast as my 87 Supra NA, in every respect (It held onto a corner alittle better than the Supra), but a $5000 Corvette will spank it in reverse.

Thats the thing i dont believe im envious of them or anything, it just bugs me i guess that people can talk so much trash with out any understanding of what it took to get where i am. I couldnt be like mommy, "can i have 4k for a gsr swap?" No, i had to work for it, save for it, and when it was done like Get_nick said. one has a greater appreication of the simple things in life. You get to know what its like to work for what you have, opposed to having things given to you.

Dont get me wrong i would love to drive one of those cars, an sti, an evo. . .but the truth is, i would rather build my car and have a greater appreication for what it is, and what its been through. because the truth is, almost all of those kids who own those cars, dont know a damn thing about them. If something where to break, if something wasnt right, they couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. They would simply be like back to the dealer. because i personally take great pride in my car and my ability to fix it and trouble shoot what is wrong and i love the fact i can outdrive almost all of those kids any day of the week.

I dont believe im jealous of peoples check books or anything, im more pissed off at the way they flaunt it and act like there shit doesnt smell. But like someone said thats life, I just find it halarious when one of those cars lose to a car like mine. . . makes me smile =). . . i cant wait to have my k20r in and EF =D. . can anyone say 12 secs?

How do you intend on instilling character?

Look at this way. You've worked your ass off to get a G35, do you think it would mean anywhere near as much if it was just handed to you? Of course it wouldn't. My kid is going to work for what he wants. It has zero to do with envy or jealousy, as too many people jump to, and everything to do with character. Work and hardship build character. This is why so many kids who have daddy-bought cars act like complete dicks, they've never had to work, they've never had to face real hardship, and their parents are denying them the all important aspect of character...then they put them in sports or karate to have someone else try to correct their ineffective parenting. I've been seeing this a lot in my area over the past few years. People are starting to think that they need to buy their kids a $30k car. What happened to the days of "can I borrow the car?" They've given way to a new status symbol, the kid's car.

You got to this while i was typing my response. . . thats exactly what i was getting at. . its character, most of which all those ass hole kids dont have. . HAHA im calling them kids when im only 19. . . But besides that, its completely different when something is handed to you and when you have to work for it.

i will instill character because i won't just "give" it to them. they will work their ass off to own it. they will have to excel in school, have a job, or do some sort of school/community service. i want to reward them for working hard. i worked my ass off in high school and didn't get shit because i grew up with a single mother that was broke as a joke. so i had a piece of shit escort as my first car.

nothing comes free, but at least i will have the money to help them out. i'm not saying i'm going to buy them a g35 or evo. probably not even anything fast. i don't have to worry about buying a car for 20 years though. who knows what will be on the market. if i had a 16 year old kid today, i would probably buy them an ek hatch or something. something that could be modded a little bit to look good, cheap, and economical. if i was in high school, i would love to get one. maybe a newer civic coupe.

i've worked my ass off for what i have and i'm going to make damn sure my kids understand the value of a dollar.

as for crazyazn, sometimes the same stuff bothers me to. but i look past it. when i was getting my 5 lug and volk wheels a few months back, this kid blew his motor in his 240sx. so his mom wrote a $3500 check to get him an sr20 swap. yeah, it sucks because i had to work my ass off to pay for my swap. but when it comes down to it, i know he's a fucking douche bag high school kid.

hold your head up high brother. you have a value for work ethic and what you have earned. drive with pride because you have what you deserve. and in the future, the same douche bags that have the sti/evo/s2k that you complain about today, won't be shit. they will still drive that same car because mommy and daddy are gone.

well...just look at my driveway....

too many possiblities...I have the parts, the tools, the knowhow...but no time or back muscle to do anything with them.

here's a little hint though....

no car has scared me...well...I lie.

only two cars that I have been in has scared me....

one was an R-31 Skyline with a huge turbo streetracing up and down Okinawa...the driver built his car, tuned it, and I was scared at the way he drove.....pure madness...but he was beat by another kid that I rode with in a simple built EK with a stock type-r motor, NA, full suspension, stripped interior, tires from hell, and he hung on it with two wheels off the ground on corners and I just couldn't find enough seat belt to hang onto when I was in the car. And the track was a simple track, but the kid was a real racer....he learned everything from carts since he was prolly crawling...and his car control was just too sick to even to start to try to discribe.

Building your own monster is 50,000 times better than buying your monster...beacuse you will improve yourself, and the car at the same time. Plus only you will have the full understanding of what the car was built for and what it can do. And if you can keep up with the cars build, and learn a step at a time....then you alone will be it's master. I made the mistake, and fully built up my Z, without testing each step and learning it, and the car is now set up better than I can drive it...hell, I got a pro to drive it and he couldn't even get the hang of it. But it takes time...he didn't have time, and I haven't put anymore time into getting my self set into my own car...so now it's just setting with nothing to do.

uh...you lost me here.

How would this apply to both SRT4 owners and WRX owners. I wasn't aware that the SRT-4 had a horizontally opposed engine that would make it have a sound anything remotely the same as a WRX...

And the stock WRX's exhaust manifold really isn't poorly built. Most people just port and polish the stockers, and sometimes buy an upgraded crosspipe that has no flex joint. Headers aren't big in the subaru crowd because little is gained from them - you can go equal length and lose the boxer sound and spend big money and thats about the only way you're going to gain very much. I bought maddad headers because they were dirt cheap, but it killed some of my driveabilitiy.

The '06 's just switched to an equal length and the ej20 just won engine of the year and has been used for 25years - for a poorly designed engine. :p

Now its a different story if they're ricers with WRX's and have fart cans, BOV's and intakes - unless they have a FMIC and turbo upgrade.

SRT-4's arent poorly designed, and they are fast as anything with minor mods - but they sound stupid nonetheless (Harley Sportster underwater). As for the EJ20, I'm not knocking what true enthusiasts do to the car, nor what the car CAN do, I'm addressing the fact that A) 85% of WRX owners think that the EJ20 is Gods gift to man, and B) The 'Subie burble' is not because their engine is a high-horsepower boost factory, but because the exhaust manifold is unequal length. Throw a header on a Subaru, and they sound like a turbo Honda.

I've hung out with 9-10 Subaru owners, and most of them resent anything that doesn't have the star and cluster symbol on it. A Legacy Gt owner who calls Civics 'Spic' cars, and several guys who think people like us who love Hondas are retarded. I do take it personally, and I know it exists in all automotive circles, but the current douche-baggery of a good deal of Subaru owners seems to have topped the charts.

I have yet to meet an asshole with a fast car that can drive it well. My sissy green 93 four door has beat some faster cars because it is always underestimated. It's not real fast, but nobody likes to line up with it at test and tune. I ran a 15.6 to 15.9 and still beat an Olds 442 and ran door to door with a Vette. The mustangs were doing their best to jockey positions to avoid me. The SRT 4's were running in the low 15's. never got a chance to run one.

This is true, i dont believe ive met a person with an actual fast car thats an asshole. . Ive ran an sti and all he did was pull away slowly, untill my alternator bolt fell out, then it all went to hell. . but we pulled up at the light, he said nice car what u got in it? and we had a lil convo at the stop light then went our seperate ways. . BUT this doesnt happen all that often with Subie owners that arent of an older age range. Most of the younger ones, where mommy n daddy bought them there car, are ass holes and think there car is better than everyone elses. Ive also ran other cars where both of us were like wth? hes still next to me? then had a lil chat at the stop light, threw up the peace sign or thumbs up and went our different ways.

But on more than a couple occassions ive gotten the finger, people running red lights after a loss, people almost hitting other people, an s2k almost hitting me when i out launched him, and mostly people just mean mugging and mad dogging. What pisses me off most is when people act even stupider than racing alreayd is ( on the street that is). Lose with some dignity please. . .
