I think the cash for crap states the dealer can only use the vehicle for parts they can not resell them.

All of it was crap that got 18 mpg or less, so most of it was just worthless junk. The only Hondas that qualified were the Odyssey and the Passport and the old 1980s Acura Legend...

---from what i have been told---

they take the car in... they dump 2 qts of a fine glass like blasting media into the engine and run it for 20 minutes
if the engine is not blown they add another qt of the glass media and run for another 20 (repeat until engine is destroyed)
when the engine is completely hosed the car is shipped off to a junk yard
the junk yard can pull any parts they want to sell off of the car (parts ONLY, the car MUST be destroyed)
then the rest of the car is crushed

They put something into the engines (can't remember what) and run them till they die, then scrap the car...

That totally sucks. So there will be decent looking motors all over the junk yards that are blown to hell.. I hope they permanently mark them some how..

You know there were several tool bags that traded in classics and old muscle cars..

22,798 cars went through the program.

they should have limited it to strictly GM cars.

hey, don't hate me, it's your tax dollars paying the bailout. imagine where our tax investment would be with 23,000 GM cars sold at an average of $30,000. that is $690,000,00.

These are mostly people who don't have the money for a new car, hence the old cars to trade in.. GM just sold 23,000 cobalt base coupes.

still better than them sitting on the lots.

and a lot of people are trading in stuff that they couldn't sell for how much the rebate is giving them. now they are more motivated buyers.

    Whoa, this wasn't 23,000 cars.

This is 40,000 cars with another 200,000 that are still in the paperwork phase. A billion dollars worth of scrap steel purchased out of tax payers pockets.

23,000 sold so far. i just saw the numbers on tv.

regardless, at least they are getting cars sold. i'm sure there is a $4500 profit margin to cover the cost of the rebates.

could this end up putting us more in debt? lol

lol, there is no $4500 profit margin. Salesmen would cream their pants if they could pull a $4500 profit out of a new car sale!! This was government funded.. They stepped in and covered the gap with our money.

As far as the 23,000... It says right in that linked article that its 40k with 200k more in paperwork.. I think you are reading old numbers... or the article is full of shit..

Why do I even work? why dont I just sit on my ass and collect government funds for the hell of it. It seems thats what the rest of America is doing anyways. "Why should I pay taxes? How about you pay them and I'll collect them for yah."

It's being reported that Congress is trying to funnel another 2 billion into the program.
