Ceiling light won't work when door opens

I just bought a 1998 Civic LX. My problem is that the interior lights do not come on when I open the doors.

The car has an aftermarket radio installed and the previous owner said that the lights stopped working after he had the radio installed.

Is there a definite connection between the two and does anyone have any suggestions on how to repair?

Have you checked the fuses and the connections?

Yes.

The light still works if I switch it on manually....just not when the doors open

do you have the switch in the middle

check the switch on the door jams to see if its gunked up or something

Switches are clean and appear to be operating properly.

I really thing that it has something to do with the radio wiring. Do you have any idea if thaere are any wires in the radio harness that could affect the light switch?

not to my knowledge but i could be wrong, sounds like your gonna have to get a test light and start tracing stuff down

try taking out the door switch and removing the plug and grounding the wire if the light comes on then its the switch if it does not then the problem is some where else
