Check Engine Problem

Hey, I need help i have a 94 Ls Integra that i converted in to a vtec with a 93 GSR head the problem is that when i turn the car on it doesnt have the check engine light on but after i accelarate and open the vtec it come up then i turn off the car and turn it on again the engine light is not there anymore until the vtec is activated again.
