Christian Bale is the best actor in Hollywood.

Dont forget Empire of the Sun, Bale was like 12 - great film. American Psycho was his best.

But no, when I hear "versatile" and Bale together it doesn't click. He isn't exactly a DeNiro, Nicholson, Depp, etc.

I'm not basing this off of "the prestige" alone. Have you guys seen "harsh times"? It's a mind blowing movie. He plays an American from southern california. He does a great job playing a spanish speaking, military guy that is going nuts. it was written and directed by the guy who did training day. it was on a budget of about $3 million.

As for De Niro-I think gangster, every time. Except for Meet the Fockers.
Nicholson always plays an asshole.
Depp is great too, but he always plays a nut case. Which i don't think is too far of a stretch.

You're just pigeonholing these actors based on their traits. I guess Patrick Swayze is more diverse because he played a woman/transvestite in To Wong Foo. Every great actor is also a person, they bring what they know to a character. Over time you cant help noticing the similarities.

DeNiro - Bronx Tale, Raging Bull, Awakenings, Wag the Dog, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, holy shit - try watching his movies.

Nicholson - One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Chinatown, Hoffa, Batman, A Few Good Men, Terms of Endearment...i mean, you could possibly go read imdb - but if you haven't seen these movies it's worthless.

A lot of people find it funny that Russell Crowe is one of the best actors today.

I've seen Harsh Times, I've seen almost everything the muthafuckers done. How about Newsies? He doesn't have a large enough catalog to be considered a great versatile actor. Seems to me he plays nut-cases just as often as Depp.

Agreed, Bale is a good actor... but no where near the best actor in Hollywood. That's blasphamy.

IMO Keanu Reeves, the matrix movies are the best in the world
bwahahahahaha. thats funny.

they are cool movies, but he isn't a great actor. he is sooooo fucking dry.

A stabbing needs to take place here.

Keanu Reeves and best actor? Give me a fucking break. Point Break was one of my favorite movies growing up, but it was not due to Reeve's supreme acting abilities.

We watched "The Prestige" for our Sunday movie night and thought it was a slow movie and wasn't that great at the beginning. About 2/3rds of the way through the movie, it begins to get really interesting, so much so infact that we're confused about what exactly happened. We read internet synopses and it appears they're confused as well, because they're contradicting and incorrectly explained one event that we had figured out. I felt like the audience should have been given more clues as to what happened at the end, perhaps running through the movie with the "full story" as a conclusion.

For friday's movie night we watched "The Departed". Pretty good movie, lots of plot twists, the ending was weak.

The other week we watched "Lucky Number Slevin" with no expectations of the movie, since none of us had heard of it before. Let me tell you, this movie was AWESOME.

Jason Harnett and Bruce Willis did an amazing job, playing their roles. Definitely went on the list of my all-time favorite movies <along with American Beauty, A Beautiful Mind, Goodfellas, Patch Adams, V for Vendetta, etc.>, if it didn't become my single favorite movie ever.

V for Vendetta was another good one.

hey to each his own, i like keanu reeves and johnny depp, i dont care if you huys like them or not. they are my favorites and i dont give a shit what any of you think.

Keanu is an actor. Not really excellent or crap, but nothing special. Check out Constantine (not very well made, but his acting is fine) or A Scanner Darkly (good movie, good acting). Btw, "The Matrix" was very good by itself. The sequels left a bad taste in my mouth for the whole thing, better off never releasing them.

And Lucky Number Slevin is only great because it has no expectations. The previews didn't hype it, it didn't seem overexposed. I have a feeling The Departed will leave me wanting (most likely not from the actors, but story) because of its stature and awards, etc. On that note, Lucky#Slevin wasn't really that good nor V for Vendetta. Ahead of the pack, but not quite on top.

Now I just need to see Miami Vice to figure out whether or not Michael Mann is my favorite director. Heat, The Insider, and Collateral are a few of my favs.

i like both of those actors. i just don't believe keanu is a good actor. depp is phenomenal though.

i love those 3 movies. but as for miami vice, it sucked nutsack. if you want to watch colin farrell porn, it's right up your alley. but if you are like me, you will get bored with watching him fuck and ugly asian bitch.

oh yeah, and extreme overacting from foxx and farrell. they are trying too hard to be cool. different actors would have made it one of the coolest movies i've ever seen. and the sad thing is, i'm a jamie foxx fan.

That blows, I still think I have to watch it. Farrell hasn't been in the best shit, but Jamie Foxx is the man. Ray, Collateral, Ali(I forgot this one too, M. Mann), Any Given Sunday was so-so. Plus "I might need security" is an awesome stand-up. Maybe I'll have to catch some others.

I think my list for the next week is:
The Prestige
The Departed
Inside Man (Clive Owen was in Children of God - best sci-fi in last 5 years)
Keep going down the Oscar Best Picture/Director/Actor winners and nom's. for more.

i'm kind of pissed at jamie foxx right now. i know a girl who models and he was at a local club and she met him. she told me he did the whole, "check my wrist to see if i'm fat bit". like he did in ray. come on man, do you really need to do that to pull girls.

i'll get over it, but he was acting like a tool.

Naa, Heather Graham is the best actress in hollywood.

Have you seen those legs??

It's funny, I was going to suggest that we rent Slevin when we went out to pick out a movie. They all shut me down, which was kinda lame. Now I want to see it.

Clive Owen is one of the more underrated actors in Hollywood. He was good in Sin City, and really good in that movie with Jennifer Aniston. Agreed a little on Christian Bale, he is a good actor, but not phenomenal. Honestly, I think Brad Pitt is one of the better actors out there. I haven't seen any of his movies in a while, but he's always very good in them, Snatch comes to mind along with Fight Club. And even though it was kind of a cheesy movie, he was great in Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
