reformat that biatch and it should be good. 256mb of ram is fine to run XP for what you're doing, but barely.

You have a virus. 90% certain.

CTL+ALT+DEL, look at the "Processes" tab and see what is eating all your memory up. Delete and reinstall it, or run a scanner.

Unless you're running a stonage computer with 128mb of ram or something.

*edit*
OOHHHH. 256mb of ram?

Throw that stone age piece of shit in the trash can and get something half decent.

Ya man a new comp will solve your problems, even basic internet surfing is needed more power to run. Comps are alot cheaper now too.

Until then do what everyone else said lol.

$500 from Walmart will get you a pretty decent comp with a monitor speakers keyboard and mouse.

When looking for a desktop you want at least a minimum of 2GB, 320GB of Hard Drive and dual core. Ideally, you want core 2 duo that is higher than 6xxx series or any quad core with a dedicated graphics card.

Ive seen some really good deals at various places where you can get a quad core machine with 19lcd and all the goodies for around 600ish. Whats even better is if you have any geeky friends or someone with decent computer knowledge and piece one for you. Itll be much cheaper and holder a longer warranty. =)

oh yeah and all the current processors are 64-bit so dont base processor selection on that. however, not all has virtualization technology, but if youre just gonna surf porn, write papers or watever, that doesnt matter anyway.

I just looked through the specs and the HP lists its bus speed at 2,000 while the Compaq doesn't, leading me to believe that the Compaq could possibly have a lower bus speed. HP for the win! SWOOSH! :D

This is going to take a second as I have to switch computers to print the specs out in order to do a side by side comparison for you. And yes, by the way, I DIDN'T re-edit my last post. You're just going to have to live with my posting a post two minutes apart, BASTARD! :D

It does. That is the one bright side that it does have and that's really about it. The Compaq doesn't list it's bus speed but the HP does and it's 2,000mhz, which is good. The HP has 2 Firewire ports, which you may end up using, versus none on the Compaq. The HP has one 3.5 bay and the Compaq has 2...whopidido.

The only thing that I do not like about either of them is that they share their video memory. Other than that, I would take the "slower" HP, which is only .2 gigs slower, which you will not be able to tell the difference, over the Compaq.

cool i tried to rep you but its saying i have to spread it around more

haha...it's all good man. Will you be doing a lot of gaming on your PC? Also, if there are any others you are interested in, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask or PM me with ANY questions you might have. I'm ALWAYS up for helping people out, especially when it comes to buying something like a PC or laptop. I usually spend a lot of time comparing things before I buy. After all, you have to be happy with what you get. Let me know if I can help you any further.

*crosses fingers for you* I think you will be happy with your choice. You never did answer the question on whether or not you will be doing a lot of gaming on it.
