computer lag spiking

ever since i installed sp2 the game has been lagging, but like in synchronised order(like every 5 mins). it started when i installed sp2, but since unistalled sp2 and problems continue. ive also updated video drivers and rolled back to some old ones but to no avail. the choke would also go up to like 30, pre-sp2 choke was 0...

I'll bet your system is looking for some device that it thinks is connected but really isn't- like a printer, USB device or serial device. Make sure you have all unnecessary drivers uninstalled, and make sure everything in your device manager is talking properly.

yea hl1. ive checked all the drivers and everything seems to be fine.

I had sp2 and it messed up my computer so much. It lagged while listening to mp3s. Id get rid of it if i were you.

yea i unistalled it but the problem persists. im trying to avoid reformatting my hd.
