I recently bought and installed the Whistler remote mount radar/laser detector system. My front radar antenna is mounted behind my type r grill where it can't be seen, and the tiny laser antenna (which i found out already works unfortunately) is right by the rear view mirror, barely visible. And the readout display is on my dash near the gauges where only I can see it. It's mounted much better now, but this is the only pic I have:

And the front antenna which is kinda hard to see, but it's on the right side of the grill in the picture.

The problem was finding the rear antenna. Only place I could find it online was directly through Whistler for $195. Ouch.
I did find it on eBay last week and it got here today. Weeks of searching fo rit payed off. Now how was I to mount the rear antenna yet keep it discrete like the rest of the sytem? It had to have a complete rear view with no metal obstructions. Hmmm... Then the idea hit me:

The rear radar antenna is mounted behind the red lens of my third brake light. Completely hidden. It can't get much cooler than that, huh?

And there's enough room for me to wire up two smaller bulbs in the housing so that I'll still have a third brake light.

Now I gotta go find a laser jammer since that's my only weakness now.

pretty badass!! how much did it all run you? do the automatic door openers at a grocery store set it off?

careful with the radar jammers.. highly illegal here..

that's pretty fuckin sweet.

shoulda strayed from whistler and invested in an escort or valentine 1.

btw... laser warning won't help you... you'll just know you've been clocked.. then you're screwed.

yes, i already know that quite well. gotta pay my $53 next week for that ticket.

escort and v1 dont' do hidden mounts. not the kind where you have nothing in the windshield. and i've been extremely pleased with whistler. much better than high end cobras or unidens i've personally used.

i dont want to start another thread, so i thought this will work here. it's a pic i took today. nothing fancy but i like it a lot.

Good job on the installation!

Actually, my V1 picks up quite a bit of laser scatter driving through traffic- saved me more times than not. I've only been ticketed by laser once, but I've been saved from it at least 10 times when it was a real threat.

That's cool.. just my personal experiences with my two whistler detectors... one went bad after a year. every time I revved past 4500 the laser warning would go off, and the other one just stopped warning at all. not even automatic doors would set it off.

so far my escort 7500 has been flawless for almost a year now.

btw... a weird thing happened on the way to work friday. I was sittin in the turn lane and as my ighted turned green, an ambulance came through the light... well as I started to go out behind the ambulance, the laser warning went nuts... and stayed on until he turned to a side road. what would an ambulance need with a laser?

lol

well... to answer your question on my part, the escort passport 7500 was like 300 with a warrenty thing and yes, doors will set it off. the liquor store, a mini grocery store and walmart set it off here in town... just minor warnings, you'll get used to the spots when you see them daily.

so is it a radar detector or a radar jammer??? or both ? just wondering either way its cleanly installed
[post=397730]Quoted post[/post]

just a laser/radar detector. i need a jammer. and laser jammers are legal. active radar jammers aren't and passive radar jammres have been proven to not work at all.

the whole thing with laser detectors is your hoping to catch the reflection or deflection of the laser off another surface (ie the guy in front of you). Yes if the beam hits it directly, you're already clocked. But thats not the point anyways.
