Prototype Nokia phone recharges without wires : Christopher Null : Yahoo! Tech
i just saw this and was about to post it...
definitely a cool concept
I thought it was just going to talk about inductive charging (speaking of which, they've been saying that it's the next big thing for years now, I want everything inductively charged already!), but this is different... Pulling power right out of anywhere in the electromagnetic spectrum... TV, radio waves, etc. Very cool.
I think I am more excited about inductive charging. If we can come up with a universal standard you will be able to lay your phone, pda, media player whatever you want on your desk and not worry about charging. Hell my Pre has inductive charging if I pick up the touchstone. The completely wireless charging is awesome non the less.
there was a really weird movie with the rock and seann william scott called southland tales. i couldn't finish it it was so bad. but they had all of california set up with power like this.
That's what I mean... It would be utterly awesome to just put my devices down on my nightstand and have them fully charged in the morning. They've had the technology for ages but I think it's both a chicken/egg problem, and a standards problem.
they have stuff similar to that. where you can just set it on a power pad, but nothing that operates wireless.

That's the type of thing, but universal. For that one you've got to get an adapter for your specific device, and stick a bulky antenna on it with adhesive. A standard similar to USB is needed that device manufacturers can adhere to and build in support. That way you can just take your iphone, laptop, whatever, put them both down on any pad and they just charge.
We're living in the freaking future... we should HAVE this stuff already.
