How does the Coolant Temp Sensor calibrate the engine. Does it restrict the fuel or Air intake.. how does this sensor work?

to my knolege it supplies a signal to the ecu by changing the voltage via applying resistance, then the ecu will control the pulse width on the injectors. (richens the fuel mixture when it is cold, and leans it out when it reaches operating temperature)

I hate that sensor, Makes you think all kinds of sh#ts wrong with your car.
