My buds 1990 Integra has a strage problem. His cooling fan will turn on at complete random. I mean like 3 in the morning when the engines dead cold. His Temp gauge hasn't worked ever so he just installed a new external one, but it stays at 150 degree even with the car off, and the coolant dead cold as well. When we pull the battery cable the needle returns to zero. Any ideas? Thanks!

Radiator fans have power to them all the time, that's why there is a "caution" on the rad support saying NEVER to put your hand there. As for it coming on when it's dead cold I'm not sure why.

Coolant temperature SWITCH, not to be confused with the coolant temperature sensor. It has most likely gone bad.

also called a "thermo switch" or "thermo fan switch" by the aftermarket.

Excellent. I let him know, and his gauge actually came with a new one, so he will install it and we'll see. Thanks

Sweet, we installed the new Temp Switch and it fixed it! Thanks guys!
