Did you mean D15 or B16? And is he willing to swap you with the motor as it is?

find a new swap... you will pay more to actually fixed a cracked block (including all the other work that will be needed) than getting a new swap and rebuilding that one.
    if its a d15.

in order to get him to trade me it has to be fixed so maybe i should just keep my civic and forget about it if it is cheaper to do a swap. also honestly what motor should i look at to drop in it

Assuming it is the D15, I would just do a stock swap to get it running. Then trade your buddy for his LS swapped vehicle.

Just do another D15B7 swap, get it running, and then trade your buddy.
