I have a 02 Civic and the gearbox has gone completely as well as a few things needing attention on the engine. Rather than repairing the engine and buying a new gearbox I could buy a 2nd hand 1.6 engine and gearbox for a similar price it would cost to fix my standard 1.4.

My question is will there be any issue with the ECU or anything else when I change from the D14Z6 to the D16V1. I heard if I change the ECU along with the engine my original key will not work with it and Ill have to get the ECU 'unlocked' by Honda. Is this true? Is is possible to just change the engine and gearbox whilst leaving the 1.4 ECU in place and maybe at a later date get a piggyback ECU or a remap?

Thanks!
