Dear God man, I wish I could answer this. Even though I switched my engine for a Z6 I STILL don't know what VTEC feels like. haha I was supposed to get my chipped P28 put in today, but my mechanic had something come up.

As far as the knocking sound, I personally wouldn't think it's the axle, but again, I am not one of the more experienced people on here. It wouldn't hurt to see if your axle is all the way in, as was the case when my boss and I swapped out my engine years ago. I took my car home, went to leave for work, put it on reverse and BAM! The drivers side cv joint popped out of place. haha It ended up being that he forgot to put the pin, which holds it in the axle in. Hell I didn't complain. He helped me switch everything out for FREE! I also got to learn a lot about my car then. Let me know if you figure out the problem.

The pin? Do you mean the round spring clip? I dunno but I'm pretty sure me and the guys put everything back on right we didn't skip out on anything. It sounds exactly like when my mom's tie rods were knocking on her Taurus, but my Civic is a dx it doesn't have tie rods.

I think that's the pin. That's what happened to mine anyways. I really wish I could be more help, but I'm just learning a lot of things myself.

Wow...I'm not sure at all. Yeah, I'm of no use. haha I'd check to see the compatibility between them. A good and quick way to go about it would be to call AutoZone or any parts store, and ask them if the Z6/Y8 parts are interchangeable with the D15B. Next to that, Google or waiting for a person that has knowledge to post on your thread about it would be the next option to wait for. Personally I like doing research myself. If I weren't overwhelmed in learning about my build I would dive in for you. :D

WHAT!? are you serious? A parts store is the worst place to ask a question like that. The best place is right here, on a forum. I'm pretty sure that a d15b is just a de-stroked z6, so you should be fine there. The y8 is a different generation, so I'm not sure about that.

The d15b vtec couldn't just be a de-stroked z6 I've looked it up on D-series.org and I know for sure it has unique pistons and rods, not so sure on valvetrain tho. But another reason it's not just a de-stroked z6 is because everywhere I look says that the d15b vtec is supposedly the most powerful and best all around stock d-series engine there is, which is why I bought it for $1049 shipped instead of tracking down a z6 and rebuilding it. It's supposed to put out just slightly more hp than a z6 or y8 even with its 1495cc displacement. I noticed it sounds a little different too. Just a little.

Well, the questions that I would ask a part shop are simple. I would ask about the same parts for the different engines. If all of the parts are exactly the same, then I would think they would be interchangeable, especially if they all had the same part number. That's not to say that I wouldn't personally question it or research it more. Just my two cents. ^_^

By de-stroked, I mean that the d15b and z6 have the same head and block. The d15b has a crank with a shorter stroke. The block has a shorter deck height than the z6. I do know that unlike all other d15's, the d15b shared the same journal dimentions as the z6.

I wonder how much stronger the d15b would be if it had the same deck height and stroke as a z6..I'm pretty happy with it the way it is, it does its job as a daily commuter with some higher-rpm uumph for passing. Still can't wait to finish up the exhaust and install a nitrous kit :). Think it'll be able to handle a 100 shot? Stock D-series blocks should be able to handle 220-ish hp every now n then, right? Or would I be better off with a 75 shot? I'll probably get an adjustable 30-70-100 but just wanna know if it'll hold up with a 100 shot, since D-series stock blocks are known to handle around 250hp at the wheels turbocharged.

250 at the wheels is really pushing it if you want reliability. To run the nitrous correctly, you're gonna want to get some dyno tuning to make sure its getting enough fuel/timing. The deck height and stroke has little to do with how strong the engine is by the way. The shorter stroke just makes it theoretically easier to spin at higher speeds.

Yea, I'm not looking to make 250 at the wheels yet. For now I just want to finish up my exhaust with a test-pipe and catback, then get a nitrous kit. I'm gonna have it dynoed after I finish up the exhaust just for fun and to see where I'm at, and I can show yall my numbers :D pretty low I'm sure I'm gonna take a guess that I'll be making 135-140 hp at the crank with the intake and full exhaust with a testpipe.

I want at least a 70 shot I'm pretty sure a stock D will handle that every now n then no problem. But I really want an adjustable so I can crank it to 100 and I'm looking to make 220 hp max with stock internals, and I only want that with the bottle so it only gets beat on every now n then when I want the extra power. Also, where would I be able to get a nitrous refill?

I'm confused. First you wanted to go boost, but go n/a first, and now spray? I'm just confused in general about your plans. First off, I think if you're throwing all this money into it, you should finish repairing the wiring issue you mentioned earlier. Make your car run right before anything. And as you said above, it does it's job as a daily commuter. That means that anything not daily commuter-ish, is going to be harsh. Are you planning on turning this into a track car, or taking it to the track, etc? I've heard the 220 hp max internals stuff as well, but you don't want to keep pushing it. Blowing nos into a car that's not built for nos, will kill it's lifespan, same as with f/i. I mean it's your car, your engine, your money, but if your going to spend the money and time, build your car for nos, and then get nos, not the other way around. Do it right the first time. But like I said above, get your car running right first.

Well basically I'm at that point right now where I'm just starting to save up for performance parts now that I got the engine swap out of the way and as far as the wiring issues like the corner light not working all the time, I'm just gonna go like that til I get pulled over and the cops make my ass get the car inspected I'll just tell them I forgot.

And like I said I'm finally saving up for performance parts for the car that I FINALLY have running, that I've been saving up for since I was 12. I've been waiting 5 years for this and now I'm just looking to make the most safe and reliable hp as soon as possible. I want it to be a daily driver with some pep (ok, a LOT of pep) that can spank a lot of cars on the road.

You're right, I don't want to keep pushing it on stock internals that's why I'd rather get a nitrous kit, so I can have the power only when I want it, rather than turbocharging on stock internals and beating on it every day. I keep changing my mind because I just can't wait I'm getting real power-hungry right now :D especially after wiring up vtec and seeing what a difference that made. But I'm pretty sure I'm going with the last thing I said, full exhaust and a nitrous kit that should be a lot of fun and last me til I go turbo, hell maybe if I like it enough I won't even have to go turbo. I know what you're saying tho. Just over 200 hp is where I wanna be.

By the way, does anyone know if I'll need anything else to run a 100 shot kit? 200 hp shouldn't require an aftermarket fuel pump and injectors right? Stock ecu good enough for it?

you should be fine on the stock fuel pump, however, you need to get the engine more fuel so it doesn't go boom. I think going for a wet shot of nitrous will be the easiest way to do so. Basically it has a supplemental fuel injector to compensate for the additional fuel you need. The stock 240cc injectors arn't going to cut it by themselves at 200 whp.

I've decided to save up for this kit: Honda Civic Nitrous Express Import EFI Stage 1 Nitrous System at PRO Civic.com

The NX 35-50-75 (whp) adjustable wet kit. Honda Civic Parts Specialists claims the stock fuel pump should be fine, and that you should get an MSD ignition and 2-3 step cooler iridium spark plugs and you should be good to go. I've got plenty of time, still got my exhaust system to finish up.

And I'm making some WEAK ASS pay checks where I'm workin now...shit I'm lucky to make $175 in a 2 week check now that's some bullshit considering I used to make $700/2weeks when I was 16 workin at a chinese restaurant, $420/2weeks during school. It sucks ASS.

You and your immediate thirst for power...

I dunno man, I just don't know. I understand you want the go and you want it now, but you're gonna spend around $600 on a nitrous kit, plus shipping, plus another hundred or so probably for ignition stuff...if it were me, I'd rather throw all that cash in the bank and save it for the turbo kit...just gotta have some patience man...

Heh heh...I'm sure you're really tired of hearing that at this point...but you know we're going to keep on saying it...:D

HAHAHA tell me about it I can't help it. I want it so bad because I've never really driven a quick car or even been in one aside from my dad's 500 hp Chevelle but that was years ago I don't really remember that. Patience is one thing I definitely don't have, I was ready to drop out of school and grab 2 full time jobs to make my car faster or buy a 240sx and build that.

It's been a while since I heard something intelligent out of you. Ready to drop out for 2 full time shit paying jobs? Bad idea.

:werd:

That's about the worst idea you could possibly have. I know it's a cliche, but stay in school and get good grades, it's worth it in the long run.
