D16y8 burning oil?

    I just put a D16y8 from a 97 civic ex in my hatch. It runs great but when the oil level is full it smokes real bad. If the oil level is about half it only smokes when vtec kicks in.

    Sounds like your rings are toast, or your valve seals are shot. There is probably another factor, but I will think about it and get back to you. Do not start ripping your motor apart to find if it is rings just yet. I say this from experience because I just rebuilt my D16a6 and it cost me $700 CAD and I still have to rebuild it myself!.

    ok, first chk your spark plug sockets to see if there is any oil in them if so its your valve seals(there bad) pull head and change them..

    mine did the saeme thing and the valve seals were bad. only smoke when the v-tech engaged. all i can advise is do a compression test and if that all looks good then you are more then likely looking at bad valve seals. good luck

    mine does similar. Smokes in VTEC and sporatically whenever. Also shes very oil thirsty. I was told to do a leak down test as well.

    100% sure its your valve seals ,so pull your head and replace them and you"ll be good to go...
