Ever since my other radar detector got jacked in October 02, I've been driving solo...and I'm surprised I hadn't gotten a ticket in that time...but now I have a new weapon...an Escort Passport 7500S. I woulda got the 8500, but it was over 300 with the warrenty.

I bought it for my trip to Indy cause I was a bit paranoid tryin to do 80 down I69 to Indy on Thanksgiving Day...really weird though, I did not even see ONE cop on the way to and from Indy.


This is a programmable Detector and can be upgraded for any new bands that the police may come out with to catch me speeding...so far this is the only pic I have of it, it's worked good...I've been clocked 3 times so far.
I took this yesterday as I was leaving my street to go down to Indy... sorry it's blurry, I hit a pothole at the exact moment I snapped the pic:

Yeah, I moved it up about a foot today...I just stuck it on and played with it a little the night before when I got it.


I got hit with a Ka Band on the way home from work tonight (friday) and I had no idea where the cop was...he was coming around the bend on Washington Blvd about 1/4 mile away with his radar on. I knew he was there before I saw him.

What if they get you with "Lidar" (i think thats what its called).

It detects X, K, Ka radar bands, and all laser frequencies. On top of that I can send it in and get it upgraded for any new radar/laser frequencies they come up with.

What if they get you with "Lidar" (i think thats what its called).

yea, but the last i heard, nothing was out to detect lidar yet.. dunno if they do now or not. good luck tho, you wont need that down here, they hit you too quick.

I rarely speed much anymore around town anyway. I only do late night high speed runs down the highway if I get bored.

lidar is laser... detectors for it have been around forever and ever...

they have something they JUST came out with, that nothing can detect.. b/c the Austin police use it.. drive by there with your radar detector out the window and it wont EVER go off, but if you speed, he'll get your ass and tell you he was radaring you..

and they called it lidar.. or something like that..

I think you are referring to wideband Ka radar.. .which uses a frequency hopping scheme to defeat radar detectors. Or maybe you're thinking of Ku band, which isn't yet used in the US...

No, Lidar is jammable - since it works by bouncing light rays off the car, if you have a divice that will send light rays back to the unit you can confuse it.

I stopped using my radar detector. Sure it warned me of fixed squad-car radars but only went off for a half second when radar guns clocked me, most of the time too late for me to do anything about it. I've gotten tickets with the radar detector and all it was good for was telling me when I was fucked.
Now I took it out over a year ago and have been ticket free since. (knock on wood)
I think it was a waste of money, besides the cop didn't cut me any slack when they pulled me over and saw the two suction cup marks on the windshield.

lidar detection is kinda pointless anyway. Since it works on the lazer principle, when your detector goes off, the cop is clocking YOU. you cant see lazer light from far away like you can radiation from a radar unless its targeting you. infact the lidar gun itself has a sight like a rifle on it so that you can pick one car out of a moving pack.

When i get a detector, im gonna have to build it into my car somehow. They are illegal in Canada and the cops will bust you good if you get caught with one.

i just slowed down in the first place. been almost two yrs since i had a ticket issued to me.... and mostly I just use it to know where the speed traps are through out town.
