So, i'm swapping a b18 into my EF, I know I need to make clearance for the alternator. Does anyone have a pic or diagram of where and what depth I should make clearance, I'd rather not make more damage then necessary.thanksAnd yes I searched the site first.

I think it's one of those things where you hoist up your motor, or jack up the car, and position the motor where it's about to be mounted, and just use your eyes to make the appropriate dent. That would be me...

if you look directly down the shock tower there will be a square hole cutout..
go about an inch down and pound in the dent about 1/2 of an inch deep,

Yeah I wanted to avoid putting the engine in and out as my AC line are still intact and I did want to hit them by accident....
    and thanks.

Thanks Phyregod, so then I guess its safe to assume that the clearance should be as wide as the alternator bracket?

It actually only has to clear the edge of the alternator pulley, but I'd go ahead and bend in about an 8 inch wide channel. Remember, not only do you have to get the pully clear, but allow for vibration, engine torqueing, and belt replacement.

i made a dent, but after putting the motor in and checking clearance i didnt have to..you could probably just get a short belt and use that if you absolutley dont wanna make the dent

Yeah, I did a little banging last night and im still too cautious, i;m probably going to drop the engine and mark specifically where I have to, hopefully I luck out and don't have to bang it out much more.

Now that its too late, a 3 pound sledge and a scrap of leather to hold over the area you are pounding on makes for a nice clean dent. Almost looks factory.

Thanks for the tips/pics woulda considered the scrap of leather idea to make it look clean, actually I made about a 1/8 in. deep and 3in. wide dent, I honestly didnt really need it as I found out I have about 1/2 in clearance from the alt. pulley the engine fit like a glove, I think the amount of clearance might also depend on what brand mounts are used.
