diff bearing falure?

what are the usual symptoms of bad diff bearings? its a integra s1 cable tranny, axles have play on both sides (tranny side and output shaft side) and makes a noise/vibration mainly when i slow down/let off the gas...whats throwing me off is the drivers side has some play in it, but yet the output shaft is in between the tranny/axle and its tight/no movement there..

Sure sounds like bad bearings. One other thing to check - do your axles pull out of the transmission easily? If so, the retention rings on the ends could be missing or have fallen off. That can also cause the problems you describe.
