OK so I have been looking at the reference materials and a wiki and it seems the only difference is in RPM and a tune and obd.

    Now the way I see it the b16a obd-0 it makes 160 @ 7600 and 111 @ 7000 but the b16b obd-2 makes 185 @ 8200 and 118 @ 7500.

Now these two are a good bit apart from each other in terms of power, But could it be that the b16b makes 25 hp and 9 tq over the b16a cause of the obd and higher rpms?

Could a dyno tune, bolt ons and (B16B)cams on a b16a net the b16b numbers?

Also another question I was unable to find is is there a difference between the "A" and "B" blocks for the b16 and the b18 as well.

    Thanks and good day

B16B= Civic Type R engine. I believe the head is the same as the B18C5/C-R so it has some porting already, in addition to "hotter" cams and higher compression. OBD has nothing to do with it; there's a OBD2 B16A also. The B16B does indeed rev higher than the regular B16As though.

All the B16B's are Civic Type R engines, while the B16A variants were found in normal sport models(like SiR's).

Yes, it's possible for a B16A to put down B16B numbers; but you'll also need the head(the B16B head has a little work from the factory as stated before) and probably the intake manifold along with tuning.

For B16s, the B belongs to the Civic Type R engines, while the other B16s found in "regular" models are designated B16A, B16A2, etc. etc. As for the B18s, the B18A was found in 90-93 Integras, while the B18B are in the 94-00 Integras.

Thanks for the info its much appreciated.

So the only difference between "A" and "B" is vehicle designation? Thats intresting.

Not really; it's just the B16B's are found in only the Civic Type-R. They ahve difference cams, pistons, valvetrain, etc. than teh B16A's

As far as the B18s, IIRC there's a slight difference in power also but may be due to compression difference and tuning.

I thought I read somewhere that 16b's have different deck height/rod length:huh:, could be mistaken though.

According to tthis sites referance materials the bore and stroke are the same but the slight differences it says is the C/R differs slightly.

    That is correct.

The B16B's use the same blocks as the B18s. The B16A's have shorter blocks and shorter rods.

So the A block would have a better r/s ratio compated to the B?

i dont believe so no. the b16b is basically a de-stroked usdm type r. everything about it is better than a standard b16a. thats why it performs so much better and it carries a much heftier price tag
