I have done a bunch of research recently on knock sensors but one thing that I couldn't find out is weather or not I need to ground the sensor?

when I cut the KS wire out of the jdm harness so that I could add it to by harness I noticed that there is an extra wire that runs along with the knock signal wire. it was grounded to the engine when it came to me but the wire did not connect to the sensor it'self so I figured that it didn't really matter if that wire went to ground or not.

I have had intermitent problems with the cel code for the knock sensor and not it's everytime I drive the car. I'm wondering if I need to reconect that wire to ground or if it is something else

I'm going to be doing some testing on it today after work and want to know where to start. I plan on hooking up the sensor wire to a sound recorder to make sure the sensor is actually working and to see if the wiring is good

thanks

I know the block is a ground but does that "shielded" wire need to be grounded?
could that be the cause of my cel coming on?

thanks
