long story short, bike was stolen and layed down on both sides. haven't seen the damage yet, but it can't be good.

assuming the worst and that i need to replace just about everything, should i get some bike stands? if so, which ones?

also, if i need a full repaint and don't just buy pre-painted parts, how much should i expect to pay if i pull all the parts and just take them to a shop for prep and spray?

i'd probably keep the money for the parts, not really much you can't do with the regular kick stand as far as plastics go
paint cost is gonna depend on the damage, and put aside the money for the OE graphics kit as well
my friends dad had a front fender and tank sprayed with ghost flames and it ran him about 500 bucks, but it was really well done
prob 500-1000 for fixing and spraying

what kind of bike was/is it? and how did they get it?

video surveillance equipment is dirt cheap these days. a motion activated camera you hook up to a computer is a good investment.

Well i dont think you would need bike stands unless the rims got damaged and you were going to send them off to get repaired, if so i would go with pitbull stands they range anywhere from $80 to $130 but i agree with RECKED RACING aint much a regular kick stand cant do. I own a custom paint a fab shop in Dallas and i get alot of bikes that have been layed down and i usaully charge anywhere from 750 to 1500 to repair and repaint the entire bike including new decals, now days its easy to fix bike plastics with all the new plastic repair kits and plastic welders defianatly cheaper than buying new ones. also if you need to replace your decals there's graphics companys out there like DECALFX.COM that sell you the factory looking decal kits at half the price of what the dealer would sell you and they also have custom graphic kits that look pretty cool. What kind of bike do you have?

If you already have a drag bike, why ruin your street bike by extending the swing arm? I can under stand if you track your street bike all the time but if not, why do that?

    Poor GSX-R =(

If you notice the swingarm is only extended 6" over and i also race this bike on a weekly basis and twice a month in a prostreet class that doesnt allow a swingarm longer than 6" from factory, also 6" over doesnt affect the way a bike handles if you now how to ride it, i can still take corners like when it was stock, the only difference is that if you pull up to me with the exact swingarm your bike came with from the factory and mine is extended, while your popping wheelies trying to keep up with my launch i've already crossed the finish line.

    Um, no.

Can you ride on the backroads faster then your normal rider who cant ride worth a damn? I dont see why not, but take the same rider, put them on a stock bike and then on a 6" extended swing arm bike and time him at the track.... no way jose. Wont even be close.

Again, if you drag your bike. I fully understand, that's what you're into I wont knock it since you do take it to the drag strip. Just don't start talking about how even just 6" doesn't make that much of a difference.

For me, if I cared about straight line power I'd sell my GSX-R1000, IMO waste of a bike to run it in a straight line. I'd much rather buy an older GS series Suzuki and make it into a sick straight line bike.

His daily is 6" stretched too. Clearly seen in the pictures.

But as he said, he does track it on the weekends.

I understand what your saying and theoretically you might be right but the only thing that changes on the bike is the length so the only thing you have to do is lean into a turn a little harder and the other thing you lose is top end by a few mph (like 7) because you have to drop your front gear 1 to 2 teeth to make up for the longer chain and distance of the swingarm. My bike tops out at 187mph, i raced a stock R1 i had him for about a mile then he ran me down because his bike top out at 193. I've been riding motorcycles since i was 6 years old, im not saying that im a better rider than you but i do ride alot and i have gone down some backroads with some friends of mine and they cant keep up with there stock gixxers, maybe its my gearing? Your probably right, if i was to go to a road course and ride a stock gixxer i might be able to get a better time than my extended one but not by much, because the time that i lose on the straight away i can make up coming out of the corners with the lower gears

oh by the way jeffie my dragbike has a gs1150 motor on a gixxer 1100 body, runs low 6's in the quater mile and of course it has nos and the motor has been seriously modified and it's extended 18" over. Whata rush.
