Alright, so I excessively tip with good service, and my rule with dominos is, if I get the pizza in less than 30 minutes i tip the driver 25%. I know it sounds weird, but I wouldn't wanna be delivering pizza all day, so I try and show some courtesy.

Anyway. The dominos drivers in my area have started crossing out or zeroing out the tip line. I've never thought to ask them about it, but does anyone know why they might do that? And it's only 2 of the 5 drivers I see that do it.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

no idea why they would zero out the tip line. that is their bread and butter. usually they get paid minimum wage and get 100 percent of their tips. i used to deliver pizzas for this place called amici's and every single driver got paid minimum wage but each of us would still take home 150 a night consistently. 10 bucks is the standard for a tip. anything more than that is just a bonus.

Depends on the driver. I worked with a guy who made 35/hr at some plant, and did delivery for the hell of it whenever he just wanted to come in. So tips weren't a huge deal to him.

When I delivered I never crossed out the tip line, but I was always appreciative of anything I was given.

Also, drivers make an extra .75-1.50 per run (at least around here), so if they took 3 deliveries, they just made that little extra dough burning a lot less gas as well.

People eat Dominos? I can't think of the last time I've had delivery from any place outside of a single unit pizza place.

If you're wondering, just call up and speak to a manager. Say I want to leave them a tip but for some reason they cross it out.

That might be their way of saying cash only so they don't have to report it to taxes? My guess is the manager would like to know. They might be in a split tip system and doing that to say they're making less tips.

Could it be the fact that a tip on a credit card needs to be counted in tax purposes since there is a paper trail (the receipt)? I know I always tip in cash even if I pay for the service with a debit/CC. I have heard somewhere that you "have" to report the tips on your recipts. Just a theory.

split tips are for bars. id never deliver if i had to split my 70 in one night with someone else who made 30 in tips that night. reporting of tips comes after cash out, we always just split my actual tips by 50% and reported that.

That or the drivers were adding their own tips in after they left the house. Someone could easily add in a tip if the person just signed the slip but did not zero out the tip line or handwrite the amount on the bottom.

They want a cash tip so they don't have to claim it for tax reasons

I hate split tips, I'd never work at a place that did split tips.
that's not to say the owner of that pizza shop didn't come from a bar background or restaurant that did that so he feels it should be a part of their system. I've seen lots of stupid shit go on at restaurants because the owner did it in the past at x place.

I know I'd cross out the tip line if I knew I had to split my tips lol.

Again, just call the manager and ask.

I know when I used to deliver I would only write on the tips section if you paid with a card. Other than that, we would just get cash tips and at the end of the night we would cash out and whatever was left over was ours to keep. I don't know if domino's has a tip section on their everyday receipts. The real reason why I have no idea, other than trying to really avoid paying tax on their tips. I was glade when I was working my boss never reported our tips.

    this.

any person who receives tips is supposed to claim them at the end of the night so the taxes will be taken out of their paycheck.
most of the time, people only claim the cc tips, because they have to.

cash, is cash, no paper trail.

Well assuming they don't have cash I would leave it blank. Something is better than nothing.

my thoughts as well, if a driver marked off the tip section id let him go back without a tip. i only carry any cash when i get paid rent, and i wouldnt break a 20 if i saw the tip line crossed through.

i used to bus tables and had to split tips.. sucked, because i'd bust my ass and the other guy would drag his feet all day... got fed up with it and asked a manager if i could be the only buser because i knew i could handle the entire restaurant ... i made $50 a day in tips busing tables, and since we didnt have to report our tips, i got my whole paycheck too.. not bad for working 25hrs a week and making $1600 a month

my guess is that they get paid on the delivery charge.

you get billed twice for the same service.

my dominos is $2 for delivery, plus another $2 tip....makes getting pizza expensive.

sidenote. i only get delivery when i'm too drunk to drive or just don't want to go to the store. when i get pizza, i'll get the food, some beer, and stop at the movie store. rarely do i think, "hmmm, i'll get some pizza delivered". it's usually planned. then again, i never smoke weed and get the munchies.
