double MSN messengers got me going nuts

I DL'ed MSN messenger 6.1 or whatever it is...

well, hello fucked up microsoft- it didn't upgrade the OEM xp (4.x) edition... it installed regually.... so now i have 2. but, i CAN'T uninstall the 4.x edition, cuz its no where to be uninstalled from in the control panel.. but 6.1 is...

ugh...

anyone have a soultion?

delete the folders, and bust out regedit.

your original msn messenger was installed in a folder called "Messenger" in program files. if you rename it to "MessengerOFF" it will no longer load the original one.

but if you installed the new 6.x version into the same folder, then obviously you cant rename the folder because both versions will fail to open.

thats what i was trying to avoid....

they aer in different folders...

/Messenger = 4.x
/MSN Messenger = 6.1

but, i CANT delete messenger folder. i get sharing viloations, even in safe mode, when i try to delte it. it wont let me.

Type:

rundll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

That should remove 4.x. Dunno what it will do to 6.x

i can't get rid of windows messenger. i removed it on add/remove programs -->windows components. same problem i think.
