How to Convert DPFI TO MPFI: A Wiring Guide
SUPPLIES:
- 1 black 0BD0 ecu connector w/ pins
- 1 0BD0 MPFI engine harness
- Distributor plug w/ wires
- 1 0BD0 MPFI ECU
- 1 Injector resistor box (w/ enough wire to solder to)
- Various wires in colors close to factory colors as possible
- heat shrink tubing
- electrical tape
- soldering iron/solder/equipment
Wiring:
Refer to the above diagram for more details on location and colorsA1 - BROWN
A3 - RED
A5 - BLUE
A7 - YELLOW
INJ TO RES BLK/RED
RES TO Al5 BLK/YEL
Move wire from Cl to B10 ORANGE
Move wire from C2 to B12 WHITE
Pins C1 & C2 are now empty
From C1 run a BLU/GRN wire into the engine bay
From C2 run a BLU/YEL wire into the engine bay
*I advise you to put the connectors near the firewall for the new wires you run for future engine removal. This is not a must, but may be helpful*
* To avoid headaches, be sure to leave yourself enough wire slack for both routing and soldering*
Injector Wiring
Injector sequence:Looking from the front of the car,
Distributor #4 #3 #2 #1 TIMING BELT
From Al run a brown wire to inj #1
From A3 run a red wire to inj #2
From A5 run a blue wire to inj #3
From A7 run a yellow wire inj #4
From A15 run a bllc/yel into engine bay
From each inj run the blk/red wire to the resistor box (sequence doesn't matter)
Spark
At C1 there will be an orange wire, de-pin it and move it to B10
At C2 there will be a white wire, de-pin it and move it to B12
Using the pins from the extra ECU connector (from the supplies list), do the following:
From the now empty C1, run a blue/been wire into the engine bay
From the now empty C2 run a blue/yellow wire into the engine bay
Now you need to cut off the old square DPFI dizzy plug from your engine harness and solder on the round MPFI one. Just match colors from the engine harness to the plug. Yes there are 2 white wires, one is bigger than the other, just match them up.
Now you are looking at the plug and wondering why there are 2 left over wires. The wires you ran into the engine bay from Cl and C2 just so happen to be the same colors, if you used factory colors. If not, the blue/green wire on the plug goes the the wire you ran from C1 and the blue/yellow one goes to the wire from C2.
TPS and EACV
You are going to need to extend the 3 wires for the TPS about 6 inches, while doing this you need to reverse the 2 outer wires on the connector. You are going to need to extend the 2 wires for the EACV about 8 inches.Based on the year of your car you will have 2 or 3 leftover plugs, just let them hang there or cut them off and tape up the ends.
I highly recommend that you SOLDER ALL CONNECTIONS and use headshrink and electrical tape. How you route your new wiring is up to you, but if you left the ample wire when running new wires you should have no problem making it look stock.
I tried to write this as simple as possible. Many people like to use existing wiring but, in my eyes it adds confusion.
