ok i have a 95 eg that has a stock d16z6 vtec that has the rods and bearings completely gone. i have been looking around for a motor thats cheap and found a jdm d15b vtec for $525 on Tiger Japanese - Home. i am wondering about the ecu. can i use the stock p28 from my d16z6 for the d15b or will i need to get a p08, or could i get a chip for it to convert the ecu from a 28 to an 08? any help will be appreciated.

a p28 will work it, but i think to make it run best, like not rich or anything, its best to get the p28 chipped for the d15b. the d15b is a beast of a sohc too. while you're at it, go ahead and throw in a competition clutch stage 5, and you'll be chirping 3rd on street tires with the d15b, i know because my brother inlaw has same swap i did for him into a 94 dx civic hatch and clutch too but he got his swap from Hmotors and clutch from go-autoworks.

    sarcasm?

If you get the ECU chipped, you can just disable O2 heater; though your car should already be equipped with a 4-wire O2 unless it's a CX.

lol nah i was being serious about the clutch. and he chirps third with nitto neo gen 205/50's on there. but as far as the o2 sensor, when they chip it, get them to disable the o2 sensor and you won't have to worry about it. check out phearable.net or xenocron.

If you use a P28 ECU just swap over the 4 wire o2 to the D15B header.

Well a stage 5 clutch is serious overkill, and chirping gears is no indication of how fast the car is because I was able to do that with a OE replacement clutch(poor modulation can cause chirping!). For what it's worth, a stage 5 clutch is much more hassle without any gains you'd actually see from the extra increase in clamping power.

If you had the original EX equipment, you already have a P28 ECU. No wiring needed.

A P28 will run a D15B VTEC just fine. It's not optimal, but it'll run it.

I just finished this swap on my Civic. I used the p08 ECU. The p28 ECU will work, but the D15b will run rich. I highly recommend getting it chipped for the D15b's basemaps.

First off you don't have "headers" you have a header. But yes, you can reuse your D16z6 header and exhaust. I'd replace all of the gaskets though obviously.

Just take your complete engine harness, header, etc from the d16z6 and put them on the d15b. Everything will work easily that way with no wiring changes. The p28 will be slightly rich, but it will run just fine
