I've got a 2000 Honda Civic, 4c, making a lot of racket; soon to throw a rod. The local mechanic quoted me $6500 to put in rebuilt with new clutch. I've changed the oil to a 10-30 and would like to hold out for a while to find a better quote. I have a few questions:

1. Is it worth it to rebuild it. It's paid for and I have no money in it or outstanding issues.
2. Is $6500 more than a bit high?
3. How long can it last ticking away?

you can rebuild the motor for waaaay less than 6500
but my question is,,how do you know its about to throw a rod??
also why would you even wait until it does fuckup..you could probably salvage everything if you rebuild right now

$6,500 is re-fucking-diculous...you could drop in a low mileage used motor for way less then that...

ya. u could get a low mile JDM setup for way less than that depending on how u spend the money. or buy a new car

Find a new mech... Are you sure the valves aren't out of adjustment or is it a LOUD knock?
