Engines and smog............

I live in california and I wanted to throw in a fast motor. Which would be a fast motor to throw into a 92 Honda Civic Hatchback and can still pass smog? I don't feel like going to a referee. I was thinking about a GSR or H22 motor, but I know they won't pass smog, so that is out of the question. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

A GSR and an H22 will pass smog, you just need to swap the whole motor in, and a USDM motor will make the whole process go a lot smoother. Read this:

I heard their getting strict with those motors and they have the smog dyno now.
My friend that has a USDM GSR setup said he has to bring his car to see the referee or highway patrol and get a ok with it first. Don't know how true it is. I just want something fast, but not wasting money or a whole car cause it won't pass smog.
