    Banker

CN: Banker tips exactly 1% on a +$100 tab and tells the person to get a real job.

I could see the guy's reasoning behind this if the waiter/waitress or establishment was slow as fuck and dumb ass fuck, but I think his dick spoke before his brain on this one. I mean given his position as a banker and the economic situation, this is asking for a LuLZ or Anon hack or something.

I would've simply gave like $5 bucks if it was truly deserving and be on my way. Maybe he wants the PR or maybe he's a genuine douche bag.

I worked in the restaurant business for 6 or 7 years and we made sure repeated offenders got their "money's worth." And if I ever go to an establishment with zero service and piss-poor attitude, I still tip at least tax because I dont know their situation. Bad day, bad week, bad life, I don't know. I just make sure I dont go back.

I once had someone say: "You probably want a tip, don't you? Here's one: Don't chew aluminum."

The next day I got a $20 tip for saying Good Morning to someone, though. Guess it all evens out.

in the video it says the original author of the post, presumably the one having lunch with the banker, wrote, mention the 99% in my boss's presence and feel his wrath

i'm thinking there might have been something more to this that we dont know about.
perhaps his server was talking about the 99% or had some conflict and called this guy a 1%'er or something?

tip: dont bet on dead horses

from another source, more info on the blog
so i guess maybe the guy really just is an asshole lol

I play on both sides of this spectrum quite often. For a friendly person, that's relatively attentive (stop by every..10-20 minutes ish), and doesn't make any mistakes in my food order, I tip 30%. Waiting tables sucks bawls, and tbh, I dont like the 18% rule for people that are doing their job well.

I had one guy go way above and beyond and he got multiple 100% + tips from me. He did things like recommend drinks based on what kind of flavors and liquors we liked (on the money every time). Brought bowls of lemons with the hummus, because...well....it did actually taste better with a bit of lemon juice. The topper was, when he brought a wasabi ginger, sesame, and some other sauce for our filet's. While im usually not one to use sauce on steak, I gave it a try, and that night i tipped that waiter 120% on a 80 dollar bill. He came by our table every 15 minutes to check on us, went out of his way to make sure that everything was as good as it could possibly be. Sadly, he moved into management and hasn't really pushed his skills to the rest of the staff, so we stopped going to that restaurant.

Tipped a chick at twin peaks nothing and got her fired for spending the whole night with her boy friend. Took 45 minutes to get a food order. When we got the food it was cold, so I grabbed a manager explained the situation, and then got some stank eye looks from her boy friend as she walked out the side door crying.

those are the cardinal sins in customer service oriented jobs: No talks on politics, religion and hot topic issues with customers; EVER.

i actually deal with snobby people all the time.

i make it a point to drag the conversation to a point that i can bash them without them realizing it.

    cant stand people like that.

would have pointed out to him that if all the waitresses and waiters of the world, and everybody else without a real job decided to get different jobs, who would be around to serve their high and mighty asses.

if it were me waiting on them, i would have quit and followed him out.

Quit? They would have to fire me for my actions.

The fact of the matter is, there is little excuse for a below 10%/stiff on a bill. Complete disregard or ineptitude would fall into that category. Not much else is grounds for less than 15%. And if you sit at my table, the minimum tip should be $5. I don't care that you only spent $15. Time/value of money. You're occupying a table that could earn me more if you weren't there. Don't like it? Sit at the bar or get take-out.

I'll stop before this becomes a rant.

One of my housemates in college always left a ZERO tip for anything and everything. His excuse was that he was a college student and therefore poor. The fuck was at private college on the parent's dime. I always tip >20%. Maybe this is because I served tables in high school and know how shitty it is.

That's not a excuse. Every place has carry out. Can't afford to sit down? Don't.

I'm not going to pay you $5 if I only spend $15. Makes no sense. It's a business it is YOUR JOB to TAKE CARE OF THE CUSTOMER. YOU ARE WORKING. It is your job to serve the customer with a smile on your face no matter how shitty of a day or week or whatever you're having. Leave your own personal bullshit at home. No one gives a fuck.

I work in customer service as well, no one gives a fuck how my day is going and I don't expect them to. I do my best to make them happy and give them what I want, it's far harder and more tedious work than yours. I NEVER get tips. Only smart ass remarks and other bullshit.

I've always tipped well but Chaz's comments reminded me of some thoughts I've long held...I've often wondered why it isn't standard procedure to tip someone who, say, follows you around a store for an hour helping you make a complex buying decision, waits on you, and then helps you carry the shit out to your car (think, a suit, a TV, etc.). I mean, in California, wait-staff still make at least minimum wage, and so does the salesperson at Best Buy...who decided that a certain percentage was obligatory? If anything, an obligation is a disincentive for servers to perform in an excellent manner. This thread has made me resolve to start complaining more often. My wife and I CONTINUOUSLY receive poor poor poor service and we can't figure out why. Is it our faces? We are VERY VERY nice, and deliberately so. We routinely wait a long time for our food then are not re-visited for almost the entirety of the meal. We usually just tip 10% and walk out resolving to never return. Then in a month we are back...we suck, and so do our servers.

Servers in Cali might make minimum wage, but most other servers make $2.13 an hour. I am not saying that they should not give good service, but they are not going to get a raise like someone in retail will. People wait tables because if you are GOOD you can make A LOT of money. The ones who cry about their shitty tip after completely ruining a customers experience are the ones who make other people think that tipping is optional.

Don't get me wrong, I'll tip well if there's exceptionally good service, but otherwise you're going to get a +/- 15% tip. It doesn't take a lot to please me, fill my water glass when it's empty, take my finished plates in a timely manner and pretend to care about taking good care of me and getting me what I want.

Ultimately, it is a sales job. You are earning a variable % commission based on the level of service that you provide. I mentioned the wage in California because I believe it acts as a disincentive to actually providing decent service. If a waitress that makes $2.50 does a piss poor job, she goes home having made $20 at the end of an 8 hour shift. In California, if a waitress does a piss poor job, she at least made about $70 and probably got free dinner too.

I have had the same thought anout who decides who gets tipped and who doesnt. When i worked at a grocery store the few people that did try to tip me I had to refuse which was pretty cool they offered but that happened a handful of times at the most. When I worked at a ready mix concrete company as a dispatcher I would spend up to an hour doing calculations on yardage for customers and making sure they got exactly what they needed. Same deal with the big box store I worked for.

servers everywhere in the us make minimum wage. it's required by law for an employer to pay minimum wage to a server if they don't make at least the minimum in tips.
