So today I had a job interview at Russell investement group. I was stoked because I thought I had a good opportunity to get a job with a great company and possibly start a new career that I really wanted.

I get my monkey suit on and head to the interview. I wait in the office and finally meet with the lady who is the team leader for the position. kinda hot for 40. nice fake tits. i'm thinking, "hey, this wont be so bad". so i thought.

The job said bachelors degree in "business, finance or economics". no big deal, i have a business degree. so about 2 questions in, she starts asking me hard core technical finance questions. I am totally caught off guard. I have no answer for 3 questions in a row. i answer one, and the 5th question i have no clue about also. I felt like the biggest fucking dumbass because i had no clue what was going on. I have never "failed" an interview before, but i was totally underqualified for this.

Now that I look at it, they shouldn't have even had me come in. there was a lot that they should have known i wouldnt know about based on my resume. this was a problem on both the lady hiring and the lady from the HR department.

so i feel dejected, annoyed, and pissed off. the market sucks for work right now. i'm seriously about to just go do retail management. i'm running out of savings and debt is accruing. fuck this sucks. but it could be worse. i could own a kayak.

    cliffs:
    no jobby job
had interview for best job i've possible interviewed for
interviewer had fake tits (no pics)
    totally underqualified
    feel like a tool
    today sucked

What kind of position were you applying for?

Most investment positions are going to require a Series 6 and Series 7 license so you can sell specific lines of investments or at the very least they'll want you to be licensed to sell insurance and then demand that you become licensed as a Series 6 and 7 within XXX days.

The retention rate in the investment industry in terms of salespeople, as a whole, is about 4% in the first year. I'm not sure what sort of position you were trying to crack into, but many are 100% commission and very difficult to succeed in. Those who do succeed, however, make around $90,000 by their 3rd year - at least at my firm.

i have my series 7 and 66 already.

this was for Russell investment group working as a client associate for the index funds.

it was totally a finance job and was only a little part of customer service. I have the customer service background, but they needed far advanced finance such as cost accounting, derivatives, futures, and corporate analyses. stuff i have never seen. and thats what made me feel like a dumbass.

I'm a Mad Scientist. I'm Dr. Nebula and I even have a lab coat. I should take pictures. I think you'd like it... teaching... that is. Good luck in the upcoming search. I hate looking for jobs. :( Sorry you felt so bad. The other job I applied for I felt I knocked it out, but they never called and when I called back said they'd hired someone else. I don't take rejection well. Plus, that was the job I really wanted. :(

Well, I know it would have gotten pretty old by the second or third question, but you could have at least said "I don't know the answer to that, but I'm certain I can find out." Or something along those lines. Let them know that you are a fast learner and eager to learn the business.

She may have very well read your resume' and asked those questions knowing full well that you wouldn't know the answers to them, just to see how you would handle a problem when it came along.

Then again, she may have expected you to know the business inside and out and would accept nothing less.

Study, read up, study some more, and try to get another interview. Let her know that you are capable of figuring these things out. Worst thing that could possibly happen is you don't get another interview. Couldn't hurt.

And stop staring at her tits. And when she isn't looking, snap a cell phone pic and post it up.:D

haha, i didn't stare at her tits, i just knew they were there.

as for the questions, i told her that i was willing to learn. I told her that i knew the service part of the business and given the opportunity, i could learn the finance aspect. i also told her i just needed the opportunity to show what i could do.

my common response to the questions i didnt know was, "i'm not familiar with the technical part of the finance industry" and "I do not have experience or education in that department". it fucking sucked.
