I can only imagine his pickup lines...

Guy: "I have earned every single merit badge available in the Boy Scouts."
Chick: "How old are you again?"
    Guy: "18 :D"
    Chick: ""
Another lonely night in mom and dad's house listening to his sister (who is trying to beat his record) yap about which badges she earned today.
    Bwahahaha

Actually, being an Eagle Scout is probably better than having a 4 year degree in business, english, or any art concentration.

Eagle Scouts have proven that they can work, achieve, and be a leader. How many college kids can prove that?

(My cousin is an eagle scout)

yeah, because every eagle scout can walk into a company and do corporate finance with his "accounting merit badge".

i understand where you are coming from, but your case is mostly about the person, not the degree.

if you are looking at jobs that need functional skills like finance, accounting, and economics, you aren't going to get those through hard work, you need an education.

out of all my friends who did go to college, only one of them is successful... the others are still in their mid to late 20s and live with mommy and daddy.

college is for those looking to get laid, not get paid :)

A bachelors degree is basically worthless now-a-days because EVERYONE who wants a desk job will likely have one anyway, so it's not a competitive form anymore. And if you don't have one, an internship + getting hired because you busted your ass for them = experience to replace said degree, and they paid YOU instead of you paying THEM to earn it.

If you want to go far/make some money, you either need to have an idea and bank on it/work for yourself
or at least get a masters (and don't become a teacher with it... lol)

I've been tossing around the idea for over a year now about going back to school. I never got a degree after I graduated high school. I have a good job and just got a promotion, but still wonder if I should have some kind of formal education. But then I look at how much it costs, and I forget about it again...

Nobody here has any idea what they are talking about with regard to becoming an Eagle Scout and its merits in relation to success:

    Eagle Rank Requirements

With a resume like that, its hard to imagine what job you’d be passed over for in favor of some college kid with no proven work/leadership experience.

ALSO - all requirements must be completed before you turn 18, unless you are disabled.

assuming same entry level applicants with 0 experience,

I'd hire an eagle scout over someone with a bachelors.

at least the eagle scout will listen to me and want to learn.... i can't say the same for someone with a bachelors

like i said, it depends on the job.

if i'm hiring for an entry level analyst to help assess the success of the quantitative easing program of the federal government, an eagle scout wont mean shit. however, someone who came from a reputable college, with a degree in economics and a good gpa, it's obvious who you would hire.

so, like i said. it depends on the job.

I agree that you need a degree for certain jobs, but having the ES on your track record would get you the job 99% of the time, 1st year analyst or not.
