As some of you may have already seen, I had the unfortunate experience of having water sucked up into my motor via my cold air intake...

I'm trying to see what my car would be worth if I sold it with the blown motor. I definitely had water (could tell when I pulled the spark plugs) and after trying to crank it again, I have zero compression. So... it could be a rod and/or valves.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a different little commuter car (ughh... like a yaris hatch) since I'm not really in the car scene like I was when I got my si.

My 00 si is flamenco black pearl, with black leather interior (factory reupholstery), 115K when the motor blew, short shifter, and minor body damage (nicks here and there from commuting on the freeway).

What do you think I should list it as or could get for it?

    Thanks for all the help!

i'd part it out, otherwise you'll only get like $3500 for it.

if you decide to go that way, i need many interior parts like the rear back seat (bottom piece) floormats, if they're in good condition, exhaust, if you have a performance one, etc...

I was figuring that if my car is worth about $6700 (with motor, according to kelly blue book private party) if I subtracted $1500 - $2K for the motor, I thought it might be reasonable. Like... $4500 to $5000 for the car.

The problem with rebuilding/doing a swap is that there is no guarantee once the money is spent that it'll work without any problems. New motors only have a start-up guarantee and nothing else. So, if I'm going to invest $2K or so, I don't want to throw it away if the motor ends up having more problems down the line...

I've been looking for motors to swap into it, but for some reason the b16a2 has been near impossible to find here in Orange County, CA. If anything, I want to do a stock replacement (if I decide to go that route)... but then there's the whole issue of whether that's a good investment or not.

you can find a long block for about $800 if you look around and you can find someone to swap it for about $500....

if you try and sell it as a shell, you won't get many (if any) offers over $3000.

imo, you should get the car running. it's really not that expensive and if you post an ad on here or on h-t, you will get a lot of replies of people willing to do the work.

The problem with subtracting only 1500-2000 is that someone is still going to have to spend the time or pay the labor to swap the motor.

    B16A2

Depending on shipping, you could have it for around a grand. The guy is a member on this site, too.

most definitely do a stock layout on it. like someone else said, get a longblock and have the head checked out, and rebuild it together... thats what i did when i blew a rod. and now i have tranny issues but i'm getting to the bottom of it... it should be going by this week :)

also you can use any b16 block, even if its older generation. its all based on your internal components. u may want to think about putting performance parts if you plan on having a little forced induction or performance output

yeah, i'd put a motor in it. you'll get more money out of it than just as a shell.

I'm just more concerned about that guarantee of not having future problems. And...I know to make the car legit, it has to be a 00 or newer motor. With the way the economy is and me being a full time student, I need something reliable for commuting that won't cause more financial strain. Ugh... this whole thing is so frustrating.

I'll keep looking at these motors that you're posting up (it really helps) and see what I can find that sounds like a reliable deal.

all you need to do is find a b16. where are you located?

there are a lot of engines online...

if you buy from a decent shop, or have someone fix the engine, it will be fine.

Hmotorsonline.com is a very reputable company. Very seldom have I head of their motors having problems. Their customer service is great, too.

Even if you swap a motor in, you are still going to have to maintain it. It's futile to assume you can just drop the motor in and be good for 100k+ miles. But a good motor from a reputable shop/supplier is going to do you well for what you need.

I'm in Laguna Niguel (Orange County), CA. I was trying to find a motor locally to avoid shipping costs.

I still think your are better off buying it from a distributor. You may pay a little more with the shipping, but at least you know you aren't taking on someone else's headaches...

I think I checked hmotors and they only have a b16a2 with trans for upwards of $2800.

Back when I used to be more in the scene I had a 95 coupe ex that I did a b16a2 swap into (auto to manual conversion, the whole works). It's just been awhile since I've had a focus on cars and a lot of things have changed since 2001-02 with swaps and the scene... It used to be so easy to find b16s. lol
